With the recent order of the new Airbus airplanes for US Airways, the A350 XWB could possibly be the answer for US Airways to start competing for Asian and other international destinations. The A350 XWB will be delivered to US Airways in 2014 and is going to be the key to start competing with Delta or other carriers for international routes. Bloomberg News Writes:
The Airbus A350-800 XWB has a range of 9,552 miles, or 15,400 kilometers, enough to reach China from the United States. The aircraft are part of US Airways' 92-plane order with a list value of $10.7 billion announced Monday at the Paris air show."Everybody is looking for growth opportunities outside of the U.S.," said Alan Sbarra of Roach and Sbarra Consulting, based in San Francisco. "Everyone is anticipating there will be more and more in China and the rest of Asia opening over the next few years."
Scott Kirby the president of US Airways said the A350s are going to replace the Boeing 767s which will have much lower operating costs. The new A320 orders are going to replace the whole fleet of Boeing 737s starting in 2010.
Why is US Airways jumping on the Airbus bandwagon if they are not going to start getting these new A350s until 2014? Airbus is probably giving US Airways a huge incentive to go with their aircraft as we know they are having major issues with the A380. Altho, the new Boeing 787 is now out yet, and they could have went with the new Boeing if they are not going to start getting these new aircraft until 2014. We all know the huge driving force in their decision is probably money. It is sad to see that but money is the biggest talker in the world we live in today. It plays a huge role in the airline industry as every carrier tries to get their feet above water and save every nickel and dime. Now with these new planes, US Airways will start competing for those international routes!
