A few days ago an American Eagle ERJ experienced problems with it’s landing gear at Boston Logan. The flight was from Toronto, Canada. The exact details about the first attempt to land and cockpit indications are pretty sketchy, and I haven’t found much about what it was. The first attempt at landing created sparks at the tail end of the fuselage as photos from an onlooker showed no landing gear was down. From the couple pictures I see, it does look like at least the doors for the nosewheel were open but no gear was extended. The news story on Fox DC featuring the pictures.
As we know, travel in general is very dangerous. It includes cars, buses, trains, and also air travel. Altho, air travel is one of the safest forms of travel. I’m sure the pilots were well trained on an emergency with the landing gear. From pictures and news stories, they seamed like their reaction on the first attempt to landing was really quick. That reaction problably saved them from possibly being a devastating landing. Congrats to the crew of American Eagle for creating a safe outcome out of the problem.
