Here we go again…..
Passengers, airport, police, airport and airline employees become very nervous again in wake of the foiled London car bombs and the very recent failure car bomb attack at Glasgow Airport. Some crazy lunatic drives their car into the arrival checkin building at Glasgow Airport today. The UK officials are treating this as a terrorist attack. The government agencies I’m sure already know a lot of about the people that created the mass havoc at Glasgow airport this morning. They detained two people after the attack happened. The picture is from Sky News.
Are our airports safe? As I see it, Yes they are extremely safe! Everyday I work or travel, I am always keeping an eye out for suspicious people, bags left unattended, and out of the ordinary events. As you travel, you cannot rely on someone else to do this for you! Each and everyone us needs to be on a look out to keep everyone safe! The summer’s busiest travel season is in full swing! The passenger loads on airplanes are over 90% full. Traveling now could be a huge headache, but please keep your eyes and ears open!
As for being a pilot, we do not have to deal a whole lot with the uneasy passengers when they fly. The flight attendant is usually the main contact person for them. At times, I do wish we could have more contact with the passengers, but for the safety of everyone aboard the aircraft, we have to remained locked in the flight deck. To passengers, that rule basically isolates us from the world up in the cockpit door.
Airports now are going to be very tense. United Kingdom officials just shut down the Blackpool Airport this afternoon in wake of the recent attack at Glasgow Airport. How long is it going to be down, I do not know nor does anyone else right now. US Homeland security is telling agencies to step up the security at airports across United States. We do need to increase security at airports in wake of these attacks, but we cannot rely totally on them. The security at airports or anywhere else relies on YOU! If you see something not right in airports, please, please report it to pilots, flight attendants, security, or any other airport officials right away!
Okay, I rambled quite a bit about airport security. I hope everyone stays safe this 4th of July holiday and always be alert! Below is the article on the blazing jeep that ran into the Glasgow Terminal…

my best friend is leaving this tuesday for krgyzstan. not only does he have to deal with the terrible weather we’ve been enduring these past few weeks, possibly delaying his flight if a thunderstorm should pop up, but now he has to get to the airport even earlier for extra screening precautions. talk about booking a vacation at the worst possible time.
I heard about this on the radio and was glad to read your post on the issue. Everytime I fly it always makes me nervous. Its sad to hear that we all have to deal with anxiety over terrorist attacks at airports…hopefully the future will be able to solve these issues with technology.
Hey Guys! No kidding stormin! It is not a real fun to travel right now. Weather is creating huge havocs on the air traffic system and now with the recent terror attacks in Europe, it doesn’t help. It is very sad our world is coming to this! I just don’t understand why we can’t all get along?!
Jt, I really really hope technology can greatly improve and help us solve these security issues at airports. The biggest thing that passengers are going to loose in the future I believe with better technology is there privacy. The airlines/government is going to know everything about you!
