I Missed My Flight? Let’s Check The Runway!

Did my flight already leave?
Rome’s Ciampino airport reopens after the airport shuts down late Monday night and early Tuesday morning. A cargo airplane was leaving late during the night and noticed a 31 year old Eritrean walking by the runway with two bags. Was he lost? or is this another Terrorist? I really don’t think the authorities knew at that point. The pilots report the man, and he was taken into custody. His two big bags he was carrying were blown up, but there was no evidence of explosive devices. No one knows how and why the man was by the runway.
I personally think this would have freaked me out if I was one of the pilots. It is kinda scary that someone can get to the runway over there in Rome with both of his bags and no one spotting him at night except the late night cargo guys. It is definitely not something you see everyday, and it didn’t happen at a real good time with the recent terror attacks in London!

That would freak me out if I was a pilot, just seeing a person infront of me that shouldnt be there.
Well it wasn’t Fiumicino exactly. I have never been to Ciampino but I can only assume it is tiny. I use the airport in Pisa all of the time and I could see something like this happening there if the airport were just a little smaller a little older, or perhaps if everyone was looking the wrong way at the wrong time.
The concern here really shouldn’t be about terrorism which is more or less the chief red herring these days, but rather the fact that he was in a very dangerous place for both himself as well as passengers and crew.
