Are you traveling this summer? Are you one of the passengers with horror stories of airline delays? This is the summer of delays! The news story of Airline Delays was featured on CBS Evening News.
The airlines are running with maximum loads this summer and with the issues of the air traffic control system, the airlines and government are creating headaches for passengers. The FAA estimated that this is going to be the worst summer of delays for air travel. The airlines are admitting this summer is meeting those predictions and becoming worse! It doesn’t create headaches just for the passengers, but for us pilots it can be a real nightmare creating FAA duty time and rest issues for the day or the next day. If there is a rest issue for the night (a pilot has to get a certain number of hours of rest per the FAA), it will delay flights for the next day in the morning and create a domino effect! This has been from experience, and it doesn’t create a fun day of work trying our best to get back on time.
A very good website I have came across and featured in the CBS Evening News is the site of AvoidDelays.com. It is made by air traffic controllers to help passenger avoid certain flights and airports during certain parts of the day! 8 out of 10 continuously delayed flights are operated by Comair and involve either Atlanta or New York airports. It also gives a fascinating number of how many flights were delayed for the previous day. For July 5th, 2007, 1,429 flights were delayed through the USA. I highly recommend this site and you must review it before you make your travel plans for the summer!
Here are the top 5 worst airports for delays in the United States according to AvoidDelays.com
- Newark, NY (EWR)
- Philadelphia, PA (PHL)
- Washington DC (IAD)
- Atlanta, GA (ATL)
- Chicago, IL (ORD)
I hope you enjoyed this short article on flight delays, and hopefully it gives you a little insight on delays. I will not be going on a plane this year, so I am fine!
I was on a plane around 4th of july flying back from atlanta to my home in ohio. It was crazy, and took so long for security checks and everything.
