Wow! What an airplane! I took a look at the videos they have on the website, pretty cool! Wonder how long it will take until I fly home in one of those…

    Hi all,

I just watched this viedo of Dreamliner 787.This was awesome. A suggestion,

There should be voice translator also fitted in cockpit control panel that pilot can read and it converts voice transmission from Air Tarffic Controller in written words on screen. So that pilots from non-english speaking countries can properly understand that what intructions are being given,on screen and similar screen can also be provided at Air Tarffic Controller end to understand what is being transmitted from plane so that there is no communication gap between two ends. Lastly the screen should be scroll screen to go back and forth.

I watch lot of discovery specially Mayday Program and I found out that lot of accidents happened just because the piolts/TC could not understand what other end communicated.

    A Jain,
Bad idea. English is the required language for all pilots. It is absoleutly essential to have a universal language for both pilots and aircraft controllers. While it really doesn’t matter what language it is, English was chosen simply because more people speak it than any other.
The Chinese are having difficulty finding enough English speaking pilots and this has caused several problems. The problem is with the Chinese, not the concept.

Is this plane made of the same composite plastic/carbon material which caused the rudder to break off an Airbus fatal crash in November 2001 in New York, and at least 2 other incidents?

    Atul Jain,
English is the required language for all of aviation. When you get into other countries, you will here their own language on the radios, but it is required that they know English. I have seen ideas of the new air traffic control system where controllers send messages to the flight deck LCDs over satellites instead of voice on the radio. The pilot can then decide to accept or reject the command from air traffic control. Aviation always takes forever to change and update to the new electronics! It is just like the new “green” images Boeing is saying. It takes a lot of money and time for certifications in current airplanes for better fuel and engines. At least it is a step in the right direction, and the 787 is not going to save the world. We have a lot to do still!

The first flight of the 787 hasn’t flown yet. It is going to be the end of August to the beginning of September from what I have been reading. Only a few more months!
