I have had a couple comments about people wanting to see some 787 Dreamliner Flight Deck pictures. So let’s talk a little bit about the new high tech Dreamliner Flight Deck.
The flight deck design is a major change for the Boeing fleet of aircraft. The new design change incorporates new colors, windows, seats, and flight displays. The front panel has 4 screens that span across the whole front panel. It is different from the 5 screen panel that it is the normal. This 4 screen design gives 50 percent more display room than the 5 screen designed 777.
A new feature in the Boeing 787 is a HUD (Heads Up Display). The HUD provides flight data to the pilots on the window in front of them so they do not have to look down on the panels. The HUD is an excellent concept that military pilots currently use. It is now starting to be integrated in the commercial airlines with both pilots having them. Most of the current HUDs were installed for one pilot only.
Boeing did keep the design for the control wheel for the flight controls in front of the pilot instead of switching to the side stick controller like the Airbus family of aircraft. Airbus designed a side stick controller on the side of the flight deck for the pilots instead of the normal control wheel. The side stick controller is just like regular joystick for a computer.
Boeing wanted the flight deck of the 787 similar to the current 777 so it would be easy transition to the pilots of the 777. The current 777 pilots will only need 5 additional days of training to the fly the new Boeing 787 Dreamliner! You will see many of the airlines that operate the 777 now will have 787 for easy pilot transition to the new aircraft.
I hope this post and pictures provided a little more insight of the new design for the flight deck of the Dreamliner. Boeing is starting to go high tech! The next generation of aircraft are making pilots system administrators with all the technology. It takes away the normal stick and rudder flying and more pushing buttons!

Love the cockpit looks like a nice place to fly the plane from!
Wow! Good stuff! It looks like a simulator, though. Nonetheless, the space is cozy and from the photos, I feel like driving a spaceship or some alien aircraft. And yeah, removing the rudders should be a good idea. I think pilots are better off using only their hands.
I didn’t know the HUD was previously only used in the military. I often hear HUD’s in the game (MS Flight Simulator X).
It is pictures from the current simulator they have built. I haven’t seen much from the actual cockpit yet…it may not be totally done yet? They need the sim done to start training in it and probably testing…
Yea the huds are a neat concept. Military was the main ones that used it..now it is working its way into commercial airplanes! It’s an awesome concept!
oh and What? no rudder?! HOLD ON!
Fantastic!
Kind of strange overhead panel on that one
I love Boeing even I’m from EU.
First picture looks great, but the second one… simulator for sure
Do you know how they say…
“if it ain’t Boeing - it ain’t going”
Cheers lads, can’t wait to see that bird flying!
They are both from a simulator
Yes, great!
Interior is just taking your breath away, but on the other hand, call me old fashion.. but as time goes pilots have less and less to do. FMC, GSP, AUTO everything etc.
Boeing 727 is old fashion radio navigation aircraft where the pilot is really flying. Can’t forget my first flight from Belgrade to London (LYBE - EGLL) with 727 - VOR to VOR, inbound - outbound courses wind corrections, it was fantastic! I like human fly
I like human fight but I also liked the added safety of computers with pilots being stretched by hours and the amount and length of their work - its a bit of peace of mind. The ultimate pilots plane I would imagine is a SuperMarine Spitfire but then you have to get hold of one.
Hey Milan!
I LOVE the inside of the airplane. When I was at Purdue, we flew the 727 simulator for two years. I absolutely loved it! and it was actually flying from VOR to VOR with round dials. The Dash cockpit is just almost like the 727!
Milan -
I have also heard that…”If it ain’t boring, I ain’t going!” I have seen some buttons that people wear with that on it. It is actually quite funny!
Hey John,
, must be quite a few variations of that.
(well, not that much).
Good one
Didn’t know about the similarity Dash cockpit and 727, but great!
Flew also with B734 the route LYBE - EGLL… we had time to talk, which is not a case with 727
Have that video somewhere on the web, if you’d like, I’ll try to find it and post the URL.
Video starts at cruise alt, FL320, desc. and app to EGLL with landing on rwy 27R.
Yea Milan! If you find it, let me know! Would love to take a look at it! Which plane you like better, 734 or the 727? I always love how loud the 727 is when the cargo companies take off!
Yes John,
Buy few of my friends asked for it, so i may upload it in next few days or weeks.
no disrespect for those who like it
I just checked, the file no longer existing on rapidshare and it pretty big
I like 727 better, because as i explained, it full flying machine it takes all knowledge of a pilot. Flying with FMC is easy
Cool! If you get it sometime soon, send me an email on where to get it!
The 727 is a neat airplane! I have to agree with ya on that one!
It sounds similar to NASA Aircraft flight deck and it must be higher quality to fly this plane and love to see this flight deck asap when it flies with other airliness and who is the first airliness to fly this aircaft! Plse advise
Thanks
