I hate to keep talking about accidents especially after yesterday’s horrible Brazil crash, but we have yet another airplane that skidded off a wet runway and right into the banks of the Caribbean Sea yesterday. The airplane was an Embraer 190 plane operated by Aero Republica was carrying 54 passengers and five crewmembers from Cali to Santa Marta. It is a tourist destination for Columbia’s northern coast. Aero Republica is a subsidiary of Panamanian carrier Copa.
The picture from the AP shows the jet landing right on the coast of the Caribbean Sea. Only 7 people were injured, and I haven’t read that any were killed. The picture shows a totally different outcome from our other pictures of the A320 in Brazil. You can see the slides were used to evacuate the aircraft. The people were very fortunate nothing was at the other end of the runway to create an explosion. The outcome would have been totally different.
Do these accidents create an uneasiness to fly our friendly skies?

You seem to be getting lots of views fom these stories dont you ??
Ah well, atleast this one isnt as bad as the brazil tragedy.
And guess what? This morning around 7:30 a Fokker 100 from the same airline company (TAM) tried to land at Congonhas Airport in São Paulo and had to abort landing. The airplane was too high to land and the pilot said they didn’t have a clear view of the runway. The airplane landed later on and everything went alright.
TAM has had airplane disasters with Fokker 100 in the past in Brazil. I flew twice with TAM on their Fokker 100 and I didn’t like it so much.
Good judgment on the pilots for going around…sometimes you just have to do that!
It really sounds like that is a challenging airport to land at..
