Fly With Me!!

The internet has really revolutionized the way we share and obtain information. We can find anything on the internet now in this crazy technological era.

YouTube is one site that has made an impact in our lives. Before the great inventors of this site, we would have never been able to see videos that we are able to see today. Today, I found two videos of two different aircraft landing at São Paulo Congonhas Airport on runway 17R. The runway 17R/35L at São Paulo is 6,365 feet long. This runway is shorter than most large commercial airports, but airplanes at New York La Guardia do this everyday on their intersecting runways. Runways at La Guardia are 4/22 and 13/31, and both runways are just a couple feet over 7,000 feet long. I have flown out of La Guardia a lot, and it doesn’t leave much room for error for larger aircraft. To help compare runway lengths at airports, runways at Charlotte Douglas International Airport range from 7,500, which they use almost all the time for landing, to 10,000 feet long.

Now on to the YouTube videos of two approaches into São Paulo Congonhas Airport. The first video is a Tam Fokker 100, which is pictured above, landing on 17R in some weather. As the aircraft breaks out of the clouds, you can see the city right below the aircraft.

This next video is an Airbus A320 landing on 17R in clear conditions.

Now its time for your thoughts!!

Awesome! Good job on getting these videos from YouTube John!

I have two videos I made (not in the cockpit) taking off in Atlanta and landing in Raleigh last year. I think they are cool videos but I never posted them.

I commend you on your website and overall passion for aviation. However, the video clip that appears on the top is not an F-100, but rather some variant of a Citation Jet. This, of course, does not affect the point that landing at this airport is extremely challenging in the best of circumstances.

    Be well,

    Mike

    Hey Mike!

Thanks for the letting me know…when I was watching the video and saw some comments on it they said it was the Fokker 100…I’ll have to go back and see if there was an update on it to get the right aircraft. But you are extremely correct, it does display how difficult this approach can be.
