So are you ready to bid on a ticket for the first Airbus double-decker jumbo jet A380? If you are, stay tuned to Singapore Airlines and Ebay to bid on a ticket for a flight from Singapore to Sydney and return. The first A380 airline flight will take place sometime in October of 2007. That is only a few more months away!
From the Singapore Airlines Website:
In response to requests from people all over the world to be passengers on the first flight, Singapore Airlines will auction the seats on global online marketplace, eBay.
Bids will be invited for seats on this history-making flight, and winning bidders will know that every dollar they pay will go to worthwhile charities. All customers will receive a personalized ceremonial certificate confirming they were part of the first-ever commercial A380 flight.
Exon Mobile Aviation will donate all the fuel for the flight. eBay will subsidize the fees and charges from this auction, and PayPal will rebate a portion of its fees and charges to help support the charities
The charities where the money will be split among:
- One-third to Singapore’s Community Chest
- One-third split between the Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick, and The Children’s Hospital at Westmead, both in Sydney
- One-third to Médecins Sans Frontières, also known as Doctors Without Borders.
I think this would be an awesome experience! Although, I think the auction prices are going to be a little out of the ball park for myself. This will be a flight of a lifetime to experience the new way to travel, and how Airbus is determined to change the way we fly!
