The Tronair 14-6878-0110 Hydraulic Bead Breaker is an easy-to-use device for breaking the tire bead on rims 12" to 28" (30.5 to 71.1 cm) in diameter for tire sizes of 28" to 54" (71.1 to 137.2 cm) in diameter. An adapter kit (K-3151) may be purchased separately to allow for tires as small as 18" (45.7 cm) in diameter.

The tire bead breaker uses a hydraulic cylinder driven by a pneumatic pump. The hydraulic controls are located in a manifold block, and the cylinder operation is controlled through a foot-pedal pneumatic valve.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Question:
What kind of training is required to operate the Tronair 14-6878-0110 bead breaker?
Answer:

Operators should undergo proper training provided by their employer before using the 14-6878-0110 Hydraulic Bead Breaker. The training should cover safety protocols, proper handling of the unit around aircraft, and step-by-step procedures for bead breaking. Only trained personnel should operate the bead breaker, while troubleshooting and maintenance should be performed by skilled technicians.

Asked September 4, 2025
Question:
What type of hydraulic fluid is used in the Tronair 14-6878-0110?
Answer:

The unit requires MIL-PRF-5606 hydraulic fluid, a standard aviation-grade fluid known for stability and performance in extreme conditions. When all cylinders are fully retracted, the bead breaker reservoir holds approximately 2.5 gallons. Keeping the fluid topped off and clean is essential to maintaining reliable hydraulic performance.

Asked September 4, 2025
Question:
What are the mounting requirements for the bead breaker?
Answer:

The bead breaker should be securely mounted to the floor or a solid fixture using the six 5/8” mounting holes provided in the frame. This prevents unwanted movement during operation, ensuring both operator safety and accuracy in bead separation. Improper mounting could compromise safety and lead to uneven force distribution on the tire.

Asked September 4, 2025
Question:
Can the Tronair 14-6878-0110 handle smaller tires?
Answer:

Yes! While the standard configuration accommodates rims from 12” to 28” and tire sizes from 28” to 54”, Tronair offers the K-3151 Small Tire Adapter Kit. With this kit, the unit can handle tires as small as 18” in diameter, making it versatile across multiple aircraft types.

Asked September 4, 2025
Question:
What safety precautions should be followed during operation?
Answer:

Operators should never attempt to disassemble a wheel before the tire is completely deflated, as trapped pressure can eject components at high velocity. Similarly, valve cores must be removed only after all air pressure is released. The bead breaker’s finger blocks must be correctly positioned to avoid contact with the rim, as improper alignment could cause wheel damage.

Asked September 4, 2025
Question:
What is the maximum working pressure of the 14-6878-0110?
Answer:

The maximum hydraulic working pressure is 1,725 PSI at an input air pressure of 150 PSI. When operated properly, this level of force is sufficient to safely break the bead on heavy-duty aircraft tires without overloading the rim or risking damage.

Asked September 4, 2025
Question:
What maintenance does the Tronair bead breaker require?
Answer:

Routine maintenance includes visual inspections for wear or damage, ensuring mounting hardware remains secure, and keeping hydraulic fluid at the proper level. All troubleshooting and major maintenance should be performed by trained technicians. Preventative care helps extend the service life of the bead breaker and minimizes downtime.

Asked September 4, 2025
Question:
What warranty does Tronair provide for the bead breaker?
Answer:

Tronair offers a one-year warranty against defects in manufacturing or materials from the date of shipment. Replacement parts carry a 90-day warranty. Unauthorized modifications, use of non-OEM parts, or ignoring caution/warning notices will void warranty coverage.
