Noise cancellation technology is designed to reduce or eliminate unwanted ambient sounds, allowing for clearer audio experiences. Here's how it works:

Microphones are strategically placed in the headset to pick up ambient noise from the environment. The electronic circuitry analyzes the ambient noise, identifying its frequency and amplitude. The circuitry generates an inverted wave, which is essentially an exact opposite of the ambient noise. The inverted wave is combined with the original audio signal (e.g., from a radio or intercom). When these waves are combined, they effectively cancel each other out, reducing the perception of ambient noise.

This process is known as active noise cancellation and is particularly effective in reducing low-frequency noises, which are common in ground support environments.

Avoid wearing ball caps and wide-frame eyeglasses or sunglasses, as these could degrade the ear seals and diminish headset performance. For glasses wearers, the Stop Gap Eyeglass Temple Cushions are an ideal solution. These cushions not only enhance comfort for the wearer but also provide a better seal for blocking ambient sound from entering the ear domes.

David Clark's ENC battery-powered modules run off either one 9-volt battery (XL Series) or two (2) AA batteries (DC PRO-X). The average battery life for the 9-volt battery is 25 hours, and for the two (2) AA batteries it is 50 hours.

Please note that actual battery life is dependent on activities such as music listening, phone calls, etc. as well as the levels of ambient noise in your aircraft during flight.

Yes. All David Clark ENC headsets feature a Fail-Safe design. Should the batteries run down, the headset will continue to function as a passive noise-attenuating headset.

Yes! Both the head pad and ear seals can be removed from the headset for cleaning and/or replacement. Clean with mild soap and water, then dry thoroughly.

If this happens, it's likely because your headset is stereo-compatible but the aircraft is not. Slide the stereo/mono switch – located in the control module or at the base of the "Y" cord, depending on your headset model – to the "Mono" or "M" setting and you will be able to hear in both ears.
