Need a Quote?
The Brackett Aircraft Company (BAC) TH-6B is a lightweight universal towbar primarily designed for hand-towing an aircraft. This convenient tool eliminates the mad hunt for the proper towbar when moving a hangar full of singles and light twins. The TH-6B features a sturdy handle for easy pulling and a 2" ball hitch.
NOTE: The Piper manual states that the tow pins are for hand towing. For powered towing, we suggest using the T-P228A adapter set. For Cessna aircraft with wheel pants installed, use the T-N182A adapter set to prevent scratching.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
The Brackett TH-6B Lightweight Towbar is designed for use with general aviation (GA) aircraft under 4,000 lbs gross takeoff weight (GTOW). It’s suitable for light single-engine planes and select small twin-engine models that use standard nosewheel or tailwheel towing connections. Its universal design provides broad compatibility across many aircraft types used in private, training, and small commercial operations.
The TH-6B features a 2” ball hitch that allows quick attachment to standard towing vehicles and small tractors. This connection ensures a secure, stable link while also making it easy to connect or disconnect in ramp or hangar environments. The universal ball hitch setup is especially convenient for operators who tow multiple aircraft using common ground handling vehicles.
Brackett Aircraft Company manufactures the TH-6B using lightweight yet durable materials designed to handle demanding ramp conditions. The towbar’s frame and assemblies are corrosion-resistant, offering strength without unnecessary weight. Its distinctive orange finish enhances visibility and helps prevent accidental damage during towing operations.
Yes. The TH-6B features modular components, including a frame assembly, left- and right-end assemblies, and a crank strap assembly, which can be disassembled for compact storage or transportation. This makes it ideal for flight schools, FBOs, and maintenance facilities that need a versatile, portable towing solution without sacrificing strength or reliability.
Each TH-6B includes a full complement of precision-engineered parts: the main frame, left and right end assemblies, crank assembly, strap, and hardware such as flange nuts and bolts. All components are designed to fit together securely for stable towing performance. Replacement parts are available individually to simplify maintenance and extend the life of your towbar.
Yes, the TH-6B’s universal end fittings and adjustable design make it suitable for most small nosewheel and tailwheel aircraft. However, operators should verify the fit before use to ensure proper engagement and safe towing angles. The towbar’s flexibility allows it to be used across mixed fleets with minimal adjustment.
The 2” ball hitch allows the TH-6B to connect securely to a wide range of towing vehicles, including pickup trucks, utility carts, and small aircraft tugs. This compatibility ensures flexibility for operators working in both large airport hangars and smaller airfields. The secure ball coupling also helps maintain smooth, controlled towing at all times.
Always ensure the ball hitch and aircraft attachment points are properly secured before towing. Operators should move aircraft slowly and on level surfaces whenever possible, avoiding abrupt turns or stops that could cause strain on the towbar or nose gear. Wearing high-visibility gear and using proper communication protocols also improves safety during towing operations.
Maintenance for the TH-6B is minimal but essential for long-term performance. Regularly inspect the frame, ball hitch, and hardware for signs of wear, corrosion, or damage. Lubricate moving parts, such as the crank and strap assembly, periodically, and replace worn fasteners or fittings with genuine Brackett replacement parts to maintain optimal safety and functionality.
Yes. The Brackett Aircraft Company (BAC) TH-6B Universal Aircraft Towbar can be used with the 1973–1974 Grumman AA5 even when a nose wheel fairing is installed. To ensure a proper fit and safe towing connection, use two T-N182 adapters with this towbar. These adapters help accommodate the wheel configuration and maintain secure engagement during ground handling operations.
Columbia aircraft models require two T-840 adapters for proper compatibility with the Brackett TH-6B Universal Aircraft Towbar. These adapters provide a secure and correctly aligned connection between the aircraft’s nose gear and the towbar assembly. Always confirm adapter compatibility before towing to protect both the towbar and the aircraft’s landing gear components.
