Eastman Turbo Oil 2197 – 5 cSt High Thermal Stability Synthetic Aviation Turbine Engine Oil

Eastman Turbo Oil 2197 is the world's most widely used High Performance Capable (HPC) aviation turbine engine oil — and for good reason. Engineered to exceed the demands of current and future turbine engines, it is the trusted lubricant of choice for major airlines, MROs, military operators, and engine OEMs operating the most thermally challenging turbofan and turboshaft engines in service today. With over 400 million hours of proven in-flight experience accumulated since its entry into commercial airline service in 1995, Turbo Oil 2197 has established itself as the benchmark HTS fleet oil for the global aviation industry.

Manufactured exclusively in Eastman's own facility to guarantee worldwide quality and batch-to-batch consistency, Turbo Oil 2197 is the first oil ever approved to the AS5780A specification and remains the go-to solution for operators dealing with high-severity engine environments, deposit-related delays, and in-flight shutdown (IFSD) risk reduction.

Turbo Oil 2197 is a 5 cSt, fully synthetic, polyol ester-based lubricant classified as MIL-PRF-23699F HTS (High Thermal Stability) and SAE AS5780 HPC (High Performance Capable). It is formulated for the most thermally demanding engine and accessory applications, delivering exceptional cleanliness, outstanding oxidative and hydrolytic stability, and superior protection against coking and deposit formation in modern high-bypass turbofan engines. It is recognised industry-wide as a problem-solver for high-severity engines including the PW JT8D-200, Rolls-Royce Trent 700, and IAE V2500.

Key Performance Benefits

  • Outstanding Thermal Stability – Maintains very low levels of deposition under severe thermal stress, even in the highest-temperature bearing compartments of modern high-bypass turbofan engines. Virtually eliminates oil coking in supply lines, scavenge tubes, and bearing compartments.
  • Superior Oxidative Stability – Resists breakdown and acid formation over extended operating periods, contributing to longer oil life and reduced oil change frequency.
  • Exceptional Hydrolytic Stability – Remains stable in the presence of moisture, preventing acid build-up that can occur in engines where water may contaminate the oil system — especially important for units with intermittent operation.
  • Best-in-Class Engine Cleanliness – Delivers significantly cleaner engine bearing compartments compared to all other commercially available oils of its class, reducing filter blockages and extending time between maintenance interventions.
  • Reduced AOG Risk – Helps minimise in-flight shutdowns (IFSDs), flight diversions, and unscheduled maintenance caused by oil coking and plugged filters.
  • Extended On-Wing Engine Life – The combination of superior cleanliness and stability performance reduces wear on critical engine components and extends engine operational life between overhauls.
  • Fleet-Wide Compatibility – Designed as a universal fleet oil suitable for both hot and standard-severity engines, simplifying oil inventory management across mixed-fleet operations.
