Refractometers measure the concentration of specific fluids by assessing how light bends (refracts) when it passes through a sample. To use a refractometer, a technician places a drop of the fluid on the instrument’s prism, which directs light through the fluid. The device then calculates the fluid’s concentration or freezing point based on the angle of refraction. This ensures that fluids meet the necessary concentration levels for safe and efficient aircraft operation.
