Our story begins with John Werner, President and CEO of PJi. Growing up on a farm in Hanna, Indiana, John was instilled with the values of hard work and curiosity. His passion for technology was evident from a young age, as he spent his high school years assisting with tech coordination at South Central Jr./Sr. High School and providing tech support for a local internet service provider, CSInet. But it was his fascination with flight that truly set the course for his future.
Passing by Porter County Regional Airport sparked a dream in young John – a dream that took flight when he began his own flying lessons at seventeen. Balancing school, tech work, and farming, John’s dedication was unwavering. He excelled not only in his studies, becoming a co-valedictorian, but also in the cockpit, mastering the art of aviation one flight at a time.
John’s journey continued at Purdue University, where he joined the Professional Flight program and was among the few students to pilot Purdue’s Beechjet aircraft. His love for technology led him to minor in computer science and share his aviation experiences through his “Pilot John” blog. Equipped with a private pilot license, instrument, and commercial licenses, as well as air traffic control certification, John was poised to make his mark on the aviation world.
In 2006, John became a commercial airline pilot with Piedmont Airlines. This role took him to New Bern, North Carolina, where his entrepreneurial spirit took wing. He began selling used ground support equipment through his blog, a venture that quickly gained traction. By 2008, Carolina GSE was born, and by 2012, John made the bold decision to retire from flying and focus solely on expanding GSE sales.
