The CDI 600T-I is a Z-shank preset interchangeable-head torque wrench covering 120–600 ft-lb (162.7–813.6 Nm) — the highest-range preset in the CDI T-I family. At 42 inches long and 10.45 lb, using CDI's Z-shank head system, this is the preset counterpart to the 6004MFRMH micrometer-adjustable wrench — built for repetitive heavy structural and propulsion hardware in turboprop and heavy piston overhaul, MRO, and production environments where the same high torque value must be applied consistently across a batch.

The Z-shank: the largest interchangeable head format in the T-I family

The 600T-I uses the Z-shank — CDI's largest interchangeable head drive format, designed for the coupling strength and head geometry required at 300–600 ft-lb. Z-shank heads in open-end, box-end, and flare-nut configurations cover the fastener hex sizes on propeller flange retention hardware, turboprop engine mount structural fasteners, large landing gear trunnion and side brace hardware, and heavy structural attach fasteners. Z-shank is not compatible with the X-shank used on the 300T-I, the Y-shank on the 100T-I, or the J-shank on the smaller presets. Confirm Z-shank dimension when ordering accessory heads.

The turboprop overhaul application

Propeller flange retention on PT6A-powered aircraft — King Air C90/200/300, PC-12, TBM 700/850/900, and similar platforms — specs at 350–500 ft-lb depending on the application and revision. A turboprop overhaul facility processing a batch of PT6A engines sets the 600T-I to the applicable retention torque specification once, and that same click confirms the target value on every propeller installation in the batch. No per-installation setting verification, no operator-set variation between engines, no scale to misread on the 30th engine of a 40-engine run. The preset format delivers the documented torque value with production consistency — which is what both the OEM maintenance documentation and a quality audit expect.

When to choose the 600T-I over the 300T-I

The 300T-I covers 100–300 ft-lb on an X-shank and is well-calibrated for hardware in that range. The 600T-I's accurate working band starts at 120 ft-lb (20% of full scale) and is optimized for hardware above 200 ft-lb. In the 120–300 ft-lb overlap region, the 300T-I is generally the better-calibrated tool for hardware in the 100–200 ft-lb range. Above 300 ft-lb, the 600T-I is the only T-I preset that covers it. If your production or overhaul spec falls consistently above 250 ft-lb — prop retention, heavy engine mount hardware, or large structural attach — the 600T-I is the correct choice.

User-set vs. factory-set: which to order

The 600T-I ships unset — the operator sets the torque value within 120–600 ft-lb. No calibration certificate is included. For environments requiring NIST-traceable calibration documentation at a specific preset value, order the 600T-I-SET, which CDI factory-presets to a value specified at order and ships with a NIST-traceable certificate. Specify the required value when ordering; allow 10 business days lead time.

Documentation and compliance

Meets ASME B107.14 and ISO 6789. Accuracy: ±4% CW of indicated value from 20–100% of full scale. The user-set 600T-I does not ship with a calibration certificate — for QCM or AS9100 traceability requirements on high-torque preset tools, select the 600T-I-SET.

Why source aviation tooling from Pilot John International

Pilot John International is an aviation-specialist distributor — not a general industrial catalog. We serve Part 145 repair stations, FBOs, MRO operations, and flight schools across the U.S. Whether your turboprop overhaul facility runs user-set 600T-I wrenches for production flexibility or requires the factory-certified 600T-I-SET for your quality program, both come from the same aviation-specialist source that understands how prop retention torque documentation works under PT6A OEM maintenance requirements and Part 145 QCM scrutiny.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Question:
What is the Z-shank on the CDI 600T-I and how does it differ from the X, Y, and J-shank formats used on other T-I presets?
Answer:

The Z-shank is CDI's largest interchangeable head drive format — designed for the head geometry and coupling strength required at 300–600 ft-lb. J-shank (used on 5T-I through 50T-I) is the lightest format for 10–75 ft-lb work. Y-shank (100T-I) is the mid-range format for 20–150 ft-lb. X-shank (300T-I) covers 100–300 ft-lb. Z-shank (600T-I) covers 120–600 ft-lb. None of these shank formats are cross-compatible — when ordering accessory heads for the 600T-I, specify Z-shank dimension.

Asked May 3, 2026
Question:
When should I choose the 600T-I over the 300T-I for turboprop overhaul work?
Answer:

The 300T-I (100–300 ft-lb) is well-calibrated for hardware in the 100–250 ft-lb range and uses an X-shank. The 600T-I (120–600 ft-lb) is the correct choice when the production or overhaul spec regularly exceeds 250 ft-lb — turboprop propeller flange retention at 350–500 ft-lb falls squarely within the 600T-I's accurate working band and above the 300T-I's ceiling. For overhaul facilities processing PT6A, TPE331, or similar engines where prop retention torque is in the 350–500 ft-lb range, the 600T-I is the only T-I preset that covers it.

Asked May 3, 2026
Question:
Does the CDI 600T-I come with a calibration certificate?
Answer:

No. The user-set 600T-I ships without a calibration certificate. For a factory-preset version with a NIST-traceable calibration certificate, order the 600T-I-SET and specify the required torque value at the time of order. CDI factory-presets the wrench and ships it certified; allow approximately 10 business days lead time. For turboprop overhaul facilities where OEM maintenance documentation or Part 145 QCM requirements demand documented torque tool traceability, the 600T-I-SET is the correct procurement.

Asked May 3, 2026
Question:
What is the physical size of the CDI 600T-I and how is it operated in practice?
Answer:

The 600T-I is 42 inches long and 10.45 lb — a two-handed bay tool, not a single-hand production bench wrench. Controlled application above 400 ft-lb requires the operator to use body weight and a stable body position, not arm strength alone. This is consistent with how a 42-inch micrometer-adjustable wrench like the 6004MFRMH is operated at the top of its range. Plan the work position before use — the tool needs clearance for the handle arc and a stable platform for the operator.
