The Fluke 287 True-RMS Electronics Logging Multimeter delivers the same premium50,000-count display, TrendCapture graphical analysis, 15,000-event data logging, and0.025% DC accuracy as the 289, optimized for electronics troubleshooters, R&D engineers, and maintenance technicians working on power electronics, telecommunications equipment, andprecision electronic systems. Without the Fluke Connect wireless option of the 289, the 287focuses purely on precision measurement and on-device data analysis where the technician ispresent and monitoring, making it the right choice when wireless reporting is not needed andmaximum measurement accuracy and display resolution are the priorities.

Key Features

Technical Specifications Overview

The 287 measures AC/DC voltage to 1000V with 0.025% DC accuracy, current to 10A, resistanceto 50MΩ with 50Ω low-range milliohm capability, capacitance to 100mF, frequency beyond 1MHz,and temperature to 1350°C. It is electrically equivalent to the 289 with the difference beingwireless connectivity (289 supports Fluke Connect via ir3000 FC; 287 does not). Both sharethe 50,000-count display, TrendCapture with 14× zoom, and 15,000-event logging. The 287 isthe correct selection when the electronics troubleshooting environment doesn't require wirelessreporting to mobile devices or collaboration software.

Electronics & Power Systems Applications

Fluke 287 Calibration

PJi operates an ISO/IEC 17025 Accredited Calibration Lab and can provide NIST-traceable calibration for the Fluke 287. Our calibration documentation satisfies FAA Part 145 tool control requirements, ISO 9001 quality system documentation, and AS9100 calibration records. For repair stations, MRO facilities, and quality-certified shops that require documented traceability, PJi is the one-stop source: you get the instrument and you can recalibrate it at PJi.

Why Buy from Pilot John International

Pilot John International is an authorized Fluke distributor with specialized expertise serving aviation maintenance, FAA Part 145 repair stations, and industrial MRO facilities. Unlike Amazon, Grainger, or Test Equipment Depot, which sell Fluke instruments but offer zero calibration services, PJi's in-house ISO/IEC 17025 Accredited Calibration Lab calibrates your instrument at purchase. We stock the full Fluke catalog, ship same-business-day on in-stock items, and our technical staff understands the demands of aviation and industrial electrical maintenance.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Question:
Is the Fluke 287 actually compatible with Fluke Connect?
Answer:

Yes – the Fluke 287 is now compatible with the Fluke Connect mobile app and the broader Fluke FC-enabled test tool ecosystem when paired with the optional ir3000 FC infrared connector (sold separately). With the adapter attached to the meter's optical port, the 287 can push logged measurements to a smartphone, share live readings via ShareLive video calls with remote engineers, and store data in the Fluke Connect cloud. The 287 doesn't have integrated wireless out of the box, but the ir3000 FC accessory closes most of that gap when needed.

Asked May 29, 2026
Question:
What kind of warranty does the Fluke 287 come with?
Answer:

The Fluke 287 carries a limited lifetime warranty from Fluke covering defects in materials and workmanship under normal use – a meaningful step up from the 3-year warranties on the 117, 1587 FC, and 1550C FC. As with any precision instrument, the warranty is separate from calibration, and PJi can provide NIST-traceable ISO/IEC 17025 calibration at the time of purchase to satisfy FAA Part 145, ISO 9001, and AS9100 traceability requirements.

Asked May 29, 2026
Question:
What batteries does the Fluke 287 use, and how long do they last?
Answer:

The Fluke 287 runs on six AA alkaline batteries (IEC LR6), readily available at any hardware store or maintenance crib. Battery life is at least 100 hours in normal use and up to 200 hours in logging mode, which is enough to capture multi-day unattended trends without a battery swap mid-session. The battery compartment has a dedicated access door that allows battery replacement without disturbing the instrument's calibration seal – important for regulated maintenance environments.

Asked May 29, 2026
Question:
Can the Fluke 287 measure pulse width and duty cycle for power electronics work?
Answer:

Yes – the Fluke 287 measures duty cycle from 0.01% to 99.99% and pulse widths from 0.025 ms to 1250 ms across multiple ranges. That makes it well-suited for characterizing PWM signals, gate drive timing, control pulses, and other power-electronics waveforms common in switching supplies, inverter circuits, and motor drives. Combined with the 250 µs Peak Capture, the 287 catches fast transients that a slower meter would miss entirely.

Asked May 29, 2026
Question:
What is the Fluke 287's AC bandwidth, and why does it matter?
Answer:

The Fluke 287 has a True-RMS AC bandwidth specified to 100 kHz – significantly higher than the kHz-range bandwidths on most field-service multimeters. The extended bandwidth matters when measuring high-frequency components in switching power supplies, RF detector circuits, audio signals, and the harmonics of distorted waveforms on non-linear loads. For electronics technicians and R&D engineers, that bandwidth is the difference between a useful reading and a meaningless number.

Asked May 29, 2026
Question:
Does the Fluke 287 measure dBV/dBm or conductance?
Answer:

Yes – the Fluke 287 includes dBV/dBm measurement for audio, telecom, and signal-level work, plus conductance measurement to 50 nS for high-resistance leakage and insulation-related diagnostics. Those two functions are uncommon on field-service meters and reflect the 287's positioning as an electronics-grade troubleshooter rather than a general-purpose electrician's meter.

Asked May 29, 2026
Question:
Can the Fluke 287 run logging sessions back-to-back without a PC download in between?
Answer:

Yes – the Fluke 287 supports multiple logging sessions stored on-board (up to 15,000 events / 10,000 readings depending on configuration), so a technician can capture several trend runs across an inspection or test campaign before downloading anything to a PC. TrendCapture lets you review and zoom into each session directly on the meter's display without any FlukeView Forms intervention along the way.

Asked May 29, 2026
Question:
What test leads and accessories ship with the Fluke 287?
Answer:

The Fluke 287 ships with TL71 premium silicone test leads, AC175 alligator clips, six AA batteries (installed), and a quick reference guide. Common add-ons include the ir3000 FC infrared connector for Fluke Connect compatibility, FlukeView Forms software for PC-based logging analysis and professional documentation, and a magnetic hanger for hands-free panel-side viewing. PJi can bundle any of these accessories with calibration at the time of order.

Asked May 29, 2026
Question:
Can the Fluke 287 save individual measurements with custom labels?
Answer:

Yes – the Fluke 287 lets you save individual readings with user-defined names directly on the meter, then recall them in the field without uploading to a PC first. Combined with the real-time clock and automatic timestamping, this builds up a quick reference library of known-good readings (motor running current, supply voltage, ripple values) on the meter itself, which is useful for repeat-inspection comparisons during scheduled maintenance cycles.

Asked May 29, 2026
Question:
Is the Fluke 287 rugged enough for field use in aviation maintenance environments?
Answer:

Yes – the Fluke 287 is tested to MIL-PRF-28800F Class 2 random vibration standards and IEC/EN 61010-1 3rd Edition 1-meter drop testing, placing it in the rugged-instrument category despite its electronics-precision focus. The operating temperature range is -20 °C to 55 °C, which covers most hangar, FBO, and avionics-shop conditions. It is built for bench work first, but holds up on the ramp when needed.
