Safe – Reliable – Affordable
Easy, One-Person Operation

The Tiger Tugs Model 5.0 Remote-Controlled Helicopter Tug is specifically designed to move helicopters weighing up to 5,000 lbs. With Tiger Tugs' unique wireless remote-control system, you can maneuver your helicopter into tight hangar spaces effortlessly, while controlling it from any vantage point. The Tiger Tugs system eliminates the need to have an extra person watch for hangar incursions.

Features

Remote-Control Steering & Lifting

Tiger Tugs have been designed with the customer in mind. With their unique remote-control system, you can maneuver your helicopter into tight hangar spaces effortlessly while controlling it from any vantage point. You no longer need to have an extra person watch for hangar wall incursions. You, the operator, can now see all as you position your helicopter into its parking location!

True Scissor Lift Capability

When you position your Tiger Tug under the helicopter with the saddles lined up, this alignment stays that way as you now raise the supports to safely nest into the cross tubes. No need to guess where the saddles will end up after they are raised. This avoids possible damage to the belly skin that can happen by just missing the cross tubes! With the remote-control system, you are right there watching the lift take place. It is not necessary to walk back and find the raise switch and lose the ability to see if the saddles end up in the correct place.

Advantages

Tiger Tug exclusively uses the HeliSaddle™ supports, which provide the safest nonmarring system on the market to protect your valuable investment. The patent-pending rail and support system provides a safe and efficient way of cradling your helicopter for transporting. Tiger Tugs use solid rubber drive tires, eliminating the need to remove and repair multiple hard-to-get-at pneumatic tires. The optional equipment GPU system has a built-in safety feature for disconnecting the GPU cables automatically if the GPU was not removed prior to taking off. The built-in smart charger monitors and charges each deep-cycle battery independently according to its needs. The tough, powder-coated frame resists rust and corrosion and stays looking new for years. Custom color and graphics packages are available.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Question:
How does the remote control system improve helicopter handling safety?
Answer:

The Model 5.0 features a wireless remote control system that allows for precise, hands-free operation from a safe distance. By giving the operator full visibility of the aircraft during towing, the system minimizes the risk of collisions, rotor strikes, or hangar rash. The variable-speed controls enable smooth starts, stops, and directional changes, even in tight hangar spaces or uneven ramp conditions.

Asked October 13, 2025
Question:
What is the benefit of using a battery-powered tug versus a conventional tow vehicle?
Answer:

Unlike traditional tow vehicles that require fuel and emit exhaust fumes, the Tiger Tugs Model 5.0 operates on clean, rechargeable electric power. This design eliminates emissions, reduces noise levels, and allows for safe indoor operation in hangars. The maintenance-free electric drive motors also lower long-term operating costs and ensure reliable performance during frequent use.

Asked October 13, 2025
Question:
How long does the battery last, and what is the typical recharge time?
Answer:

Under normal operating conditions, the tug’s deep-cycle battery system provides several hours of continuous use between charges. Charging can be completed overnight using a standard AC connection, ensuring the tug is ready for use each day. For operations requiring extended duty cycles, optional fast chargers or additional battery packs are available to maximize uptime and flexibility.

Asked October 13, 2025
Question:
What safety mechanisms are built into the Tiger Tugs Model 5.0?
Answer:

The tug features multiple built-in safety mechanisms, including an emergency stop switch, automatic braking, and low-speed torque control. The HeliSaddle™ lift system automatically secures the helicopter skids, ensuring the aircraft remains stable during towing or positioning. Additionally, the tug’s low center of gravity and precision control system enhance overall operator safety when maneuvering on slopes or through tight corners.

Asked October 13, 2025
Question:
Can the Model 5.0 be used on different surfaces, such as concrete or asphalt ramps?
Answer:

Yes. The Tiger Tugs Model 5.0 is designed for use on various smooth surfaces, including concrete, asphalt, and sealed hangar floors. Its nonmarking drive tires provide excellent traction while protecting floor coatings. For facilities with slight grade variations or outdoor ramps, the tug’s high-torque electric motors ensure steady, controlled movement without slippage.

Asked October 13, 2025
Question:
How does the HeliSaddle™ system reduce wear on helicopter skids?
Answer:

The HeliSaddle™ system utilizes soft, contoured lift pads that evenly distribute weight across the skids, preventing metal-to-metal contact. This minimizes abrasion and surface damage that can occur when using traditional cradle-style tugs. By providing a secure, cushioned interface, it extends skid life and helps maintain the aircraft’s exterior finish over time.

Asked October 13, 2025
Question:
Is the Tiger Tugs Model 5.0 suitable for tight hangar environments?
Answer:

Absolutely! The tug’s zero-turn capability allows it to pivot within its own footprint, making it ideal for maneuvering helicopters in confined hangar bays. Operators can position aircraft precisely against walls or between other assets without requiring pushback assistance. This space efficiency helps maximize hangar storage capacity and reduces the time required for repositioning.

Asked October 13, 2025
Question:
How does the weather affect the tug’s performance or operation?
Answer:

The Model 5.0 is engineered for reliable performance in a variety of weather conditions, though it is primarily intended for use on clean, dry surfaces. Its sealed electrical components protect against moisture and dust, and the tug can operate in moderately cold or hot environments without issue. However, best practices recommend storing the unit indoors to preserve battery health and extend overall service life.

Asked October 13, 2025
Question:
What kind of maintenance does the Tiger Tugs Model 5.0 require?
Answer:

Routine maintenance is minimal thanks to its all-electric drive system and sealed components. Operators should inspect tire condition, battery terminals, and charging cables periodically, and ensure the lift pads remain clean and free of debris. The tug’s simplicity and lack of hydraulic systems make it a low-maintenance solution compared to conventional ground-handling equipment.

Asked October 13, 2025
Question:
How does the Tiger Tugs Model 5.0 contribute to FOD reduction in hangar operations?
Answer:

By replacing fuel-driven tugs and minimizing manual handling, the Model 5.0 helps reduce the risk of foreign object debris (FOD) around aircraft. Its electric design eliminates oil leaks, exhaust residues, and debris-generating vibration. The precision control also limits unnecessary movement of ground equipment, helping maintain a cleaner and safer operating environment for flight crews and maintenance staff.

Asked October 13, 2025
Question:
Is the Tiger Tug Model 5.0 compatible with MD Helicopters aircraft?
Answer:

Yes. While the older Tiger Tug “MD” model is no longer offered as a standalone product, the Tiger Tug Model 5.0 can be configured for use with MD Helicopters aircraft. For these applications, Tiger Tug builds the Model 5.0 with a custom fiberglass cradle designed to safely lift the helicopter by the belly. Because these fiberglass cradles are produced infrequently and tailored to specific aircraft, compatibility is quoted on a case-by-case basis.
