BatteryMINDer BM-AIK2A - Airframe Interface Kit For Use With FAA-Certified Aircraft

Features & Benefits:

The BatteryMINDer BM-AIK2A is a specialized parts kit designed to adapt aviation-specific BatteryMINDers for use with FAA-certified aircraft. Compatible with both original and new CEC2 series BatteryMINDer chargers, this kit ensures easy installation and seamless operation for long-term battery maintenance, desulfation, and conditioning. Installation is simple, requiring only a certified mechanic and a logbook entry—no Form 337 or FAA field approval is necessary.

Important Information

This harness is designed strictly for maintenance battery charging and not for supplying ground power during airframe operations. Before turning on airframe electrical power, disconnect the charger. Once airframe electrical power is turned off, reconnect the charger to continue battery maintenance and desulfation.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Question:
What is the purpose of the BM-AIK2A Airframe Interface Kit?
Answer:

The BM-AIK2A kit provides a dedicated aircraft-installed connection point that allows aviation battery chargers, such as BatteryMINDer® chargers, to be safely and easily connected to FAA-certified aircraft. It standardizes the connection to the battery bus using aviation-grade MIL-spec wiring and a polarized SB50 plug, eliminating the need for repeated temporary connections to the battery terminals. This improves both safety and convenience for long-term maintenance charging, desulfation, and conditioning.

Asked February 19, 2026
Question:
Can the BM-AIK2A be installed without FAA field approval?
Answer:

Yes. Installation of the BM-AIK2A is considered a minor alteration under FAA regulations, and no Form 337 or FSDO field approval is required. Only a routine maintenance logbook entry under 14 CFR §43.9 is needed to return the aircraft to service after installation.

Asked February 19, 2026
Question:
Who is qualified to install the Airframe Interface Kit?
Answer:

The kit should be installed by a certified aircraft mechanic (A&P/IA) who can determine proper harness routing and secure connections. Because aircraft configurations vary, the mechanic must ensure the final installation is airworthy and appropriately protected from chafing or damage.

Asked February 19, 2026
Question:
Does the kit require any special certification or STC to install?
Answer:

No STC (Supplemental Type Certificate) or special certification is required. The BM-AIK2A can be incorporated as a minor alteration; documentation in the aircraft’s maintenance log is all that’s needed for compliance.

Asked February 19, 2026
Question:
Is the interface kit compatible with all BatteryMINDer chargers?
Answer:

The BM-AIK2A is compatible with original and CEC2 series BatteryMINDer® aviation chargers rated 8 A or less, providing a quick-connect solution for maintenance charging. It is not intended for use with high-amperage chargers above 8 A.

Asked February 19, 2026
Question:
Why is a polarized SB50 plug used in the kit?
Answer:

The polarized Anderson SB50 plug prevents incorrect connections and maintains correct polarity every time the charger is connected. This helps reduce the risk of electrical damage and simplifies repeat connections during hangar maintenance cycles.

Asked February 19, 2026
Question:
Can the Airframe Interface Kit be used for ground power or avionics power?
Answer:

No. The BM-AIK2A is designed solely for maintenance battery charging and should never be used to supply ground power for avionics or other aircraft systems. Disconnect the charger before powering up the airframe electrical system.

Asked February 19, 2026
Question:
What components are included to protect the aircraft installation?
Answer:

The kit includes a fused wiring harness, aircraft-grade MIL-spec wire, an insulating dust cover, a silicone fiberglass sleeve, and a polarized connector, all designed to meet aerospace wiring standards. These features protect the aircraft from short circuits and environmental factors around the battery area.

Asked February 19, 2026
Question:
How does the Airframe Interface Kit improve battery maintenance convenience?
Answer:

By providing a permanent, accessible SB50 receptacle in the aircraft’s baggage compartment or firewall area, the BM-AIK2A eliminates the need to remove the battery or attach temporary clips each time a charger is used. This convenience encourages more frequent maintenance charging and reduces handling wear on battery terminals.

Asked February 19, 2026
Question:
What best practices should be followed when using the BM-AIK2A installed harness?
Answer:

Always make sure the harness is properly routed and secured to avoid chafing, verify fuse protection is intact, and label the connector clearly as “Battery Maintenance Charger Only.” Before applying power, confirm polarity and disconnect the charger before turning on aircraft electrical systems. These practices maintain safety and preserve the life of both the harness and the battery.
