Castrol Brayco Micronic 815Z is a clear, water-white perfluorinated polyether-based lubricant designed for use in aviation applications at extreme low temperatures and high vacuums. It exhibits excellent lubricating properties, good dielectric properties, excellent shear stability, and low toxicity.
Virtually inert, Brayco Micronic 815Z is compatible with rocket propellants and oxidizers and is unaffected by ultraviolet, cosmic radiation, or high vacuums. It has an exceptionally high viscosity index, low volatility, and has little tendency to form deposits.
Brayco Micronic 815Z is essentially insoluble in current fuels and oxidizers, as well as in most organic solvents. Intended for use in extreme environments, the fluid has been used successfully in numerous space missions and in sensitive electronic equipment. Micronic 815Z is particularly suited for those applications where extreme vacuums and wide temperature variations are common.
As a perfluorinated fluid, Brayco Micronic 815Z has an excellent shelf life due to its intrinsic inertness. Under normal operating conditions, it has a temperature range of -100°F to 400°F (-72°C to 204°C) and can withstand up to 500°F (260°C) for brief periods. It is engineered to meet MIL-PRF-6083G specifications.
Castrol Brayco Micronic 815Z is compatible with all commonly utilized materials, plastics, and elastomers. It may be adversely affected by Lewis acid catalysts such as aluminum chloride at elevated temperatures. Newly exposed rubbing surfaces of aluminum, magnesium, or titanium alloy may react with this product under certain conditions. Such systems should be thoroughly evaluated and surfaces must be well-cleaned of organic rust inhibitors prior to oil application to ensure proper lubrication.
