Pacific Scientific T5-8103-406-00 Cable Tensiometer
The Pacific Scientific T5-8103-406-00 is the most comprehensive dual-calibration instrument in the entire standard T5 product line — an instrument that spans standard American inch cables (3/16"–5/16" at 40–600 lbs) and British CWT cables (5–80 CWT at 25–1400 lbs) across eight distinct range-cable combinations. No other standard T5 model approaches this breadth of cable type, tension range, and CWT size coverage in a single instrument. Built on the T5-8103 Ref B platform and using two calibration cards — T597-406 (standard inch) and T5069-406 (CWT British) — it is the instrument for maintenance programs working on British-origin aircraft with an exceptionally wide spread of CWT cable specifications, from light 5 CWT secondary cables at 25–125 lbs up to heavy 80 CWT primary cables at up to 1400 lbs, alongside standard inch cable systems on the same airframe.
Eight Range-Cable Combinations. Two Calibration Cards. One Instrument.
The T5-8103-406-00's coverage is best understood in two groups. On the standard inch side (calibration card T597-406): 40–600 lbs on 3/16", 7/32", 1/4", and 5/16" cables — equivalent to the T5-8003-106-00's standard inch range on the same four large cable sizes, on the lighter Ref B platform. On the CWT British side (calibration card T5069-406): 25–125 lbs on 5/10/15 CWT; 25–125 lbs on 20/25 CWT; 150–250 lbs on 25 CWT; 200–1400 lbs on 45 CWT; 200–600 lbs on 80 CWT; and 600–1400 lbs on 80 CWT. The 80 CWT range at 600–1400 lbs is the standout capability — no other standard T5 model covers 80 CWT cable at tensions above 600 lbs. The riser configuration spans from Riser #2C at the low end (3/16" at 40 lbs) to Riser #3B at the high end (CWT/1/4" cable at 1400 lbs) — Riser #3B appearing only on this model and the T5-8203-108-00 in the standard T5 line. Given the instrument's exceptional breadth, calibration card and riser selection discipline is paramount before every measurement. Zero temperature error means the instrument is accurate across all its ranges from -53°C to 71°C without any preliminary adjustments.

Pacific Scientific T5-8103-406-00 Calibration
The T5-8103-406-00 should be recalibrated on a scheduled basis — annually at minimum, and immediately following any overload event, mechanical shock, or drop. As the most comprehensive dual-calibration instrument in the standard T5 line — spanning 25 to 1400 lbs across both standard inch and CWT British cable systems — maintaining calibration currency across both calibration profiles is essential. Pilot John International operates an ISO 17025-accredited calibration laboratory capable of recalibrating Pacific Scientific T5-8103 series tensiometers to original manufacturer specifications, issuing a fully traceable calibration certificate upon completion. Whether your maintenance program operates under FAA oversight, UK CAA requirements, a DOD contract, or an ISO 9001 quality management system, PJi's lab delivers the traceability and documentation your compliance requirements demand. QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
The T5-8103-406-00 is the only standard T5 instrument that combines standard inch cable coverage (3/16"–5/16" at 40–600 lbs) with a comprehensive CWT British calibration spanning 5 CWT through 80 CWT at tensions from 25 to 1400 lbs — eight distinct range-cable combinations on a single instrument. No other standard T5 model covers 45 CWT or 80 CWT at tensions above 200 lbs, nor does any other model reach 1400 lbs on CWT British cable sizes. It is the instrument for programs working on British-origin aircraft with the widest spread of CWT cable specifications found in any standard T5 production model.
Riser #3B is the large-diameter riser used at the upper CWT tension ranges on the T5-8103-406-00. It is also used on the T5-8203-108-00 (200–1000 lbs on 3/8" cable). It is not interchangeable with Risers #3 or #3A. Riser selection at the upper CWT ranges on this model is especially critical — confirm the correct riser against calibration card T5069-406 before taking any measurement above 200 lbs on 45 CWT or 80 CWT cables.
Two cards ship with every unit. Use T597-406 for all standard inch cable measurements (3/16"–5/16") and T5069-406 for all CWT British cable measurements (5–80 CWT). Within each card, identify the cable size being measured and the expected tension range to locate the correct riser and dial-to-pounds conversion table. Given the T5-8103-406-00's eight range-cable combinations, taking a moment to confirm both the card and the cable-size group before every measurement is essential to accurate results.
The T5-8103-406-00 covers 5–80 CWT at tensions from 25 to 1400 lbs — the broadest CWT span and highest CWT tension ceiling of any standard T5 model. The T5-2002-301-00 covers 3–45 CWT at 10–150 lbs; the T5-2002-304-00 covers 3–45 CWT at 30–300 lbs; the T5-2002-401-00 covers 10–70 CWT at 10–150 lbs. None of these reach 80 CWT or tensions above 300 lbs on CWT cables. The T5-8103-406-00 is in a different capability class for high-tension large-CWT cable measurement.
