QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
The four-stage ram design enables the Tronair 02-7918C0100 to achieve a substantial lifting height while maintaining a compact, closed profile for low-clearance aircraft applications. This design helps technicians safely lift aircraft with limited axle-to-ground spacing without sacrificing extension range. The staged extension also contributes to stable and controlled lifting performance during wheel, brake, and landing gear maintenance.
Helicopters such as the Agusta AW189 and AW169 often have limited ground clearance around the landing gear, making low-profile jacks essential for safe servicing. The 3.8" closed height of the 02-7918C0100 helps technicians position the jack beneath the axle with minimal clearance requirements. This reduces setup challenges and improves efficiency during tire changes and brake servicing.
The included spacer blocks allow maintenance crews to adapt the axle jack for different aircraft configurations and lifting point heights. By positioning the ram closer to the aircraft jack pad before hydraulic lifting begins, the spacers help improve lifting efficiency and reduce unnecessary ram extension. Tronair’s operating instructions also emphasize proper spacer placement to maintain safe load distribution during lifting procedures.
The jack uses a hi/low manual pump configuration designed to improve lifting efficiency. The low-pressure stage helps move the ram quickly into position, while the high-pressure stage delivers controlled lifting power as the load increases. This combination helps reduce operator fatigue and provides smoother aircraft lifting during maintenance operations.
MIL-PRF-5606 hydraulic fluid is widely used in aviation maintenance equipment because it provides reliable performance across a broad temperature range. The fluid offers good low-temperature flow characteristics and compatibility with many aircraft maintenance systems and hydraulic seals. Using an aviation-approved hydraulic fluid also helps maintain consistency with common aerospace maintenance standards and servicing procedures.
The safety lock valve is designed to prevent unintended lowering of the aircraft while the jack is under load. Once engaged, the valve helps maintain the jack’s position until the operator intentionally releases it for descent. This added layer of protection is especially important during wheel removal, brake servicing, and landing gear inspections, where aircraft stability is critical.
Routine inspections and preventative maintenance play an important role in preserving jack reliability and safe lifting performance. Tronair recommends checking hydraulic cylinders, fittings, seals, and structural components every 90 days for leaks, corrosion, bending, or excessive wear. Annual load testing and periodic hydraulic fluid replacement also help ensure the axle jack continues operating within approved performance limits.
Controlled lowering helps prevent sudden aircraft movement that could damage landing gear components or create unsafe working conditions for technicians. Tronair instructs operators to slowly open the pump release valve during lowering procedures to maintain safe descent control. Gradual lowering also helps reduce stress on the aircraft structure and jack components during maintenance operations.
The steel construction of the Tronair 02-7918C0100 is designed to withstand the demanding conditions commonly found in hangars, flight lines, and maintenance facilities. Heavy-duty construction helps the jack resist structural flexing and wear during repeated lifting cycles. The durable powder-coat finish also helps protect the jack from corrosion, exposure to hydraulic fluid, and general shop damage over time.
The 02-7918C0100 is OEM-approved for Agusta AW189 and AW169 aircraft, demonstrating that it meets the aircraft manufacturer's specific lifting and compatibility requirements. OEM-approved aircraft jacks help maintenance teams follow proper servicing procedures and maintain compliance with approved maintenance practices. Using manufacturer-approved ground support equipment can also help reduce the risk of improper engagement of lifting points or unsupported loads during aircraft maintenance.
