QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Question:
How is the center of gravity adjusted on the Tronair 08-0129-4000 Engine Sling?
Answer:

The sling features a clevis block assembly mounted on an acme rod, providing 17.5” of adjustability for precise center-of-gravity alignment. Technicians can shift the clevis block to accommodate different engine configurations and achieve either a level or nose-up orientation. This adjustability helps ensure balanced lifting and minimizes stress on mounting points.

Question:
How often should the engine sling be inspected?
Answer:

Inspection frequency is based on operating conditions. Under normal use, yearly inspections are recommended. For heavy use, semi-annual inspections are required, and severe service calls necessitate quarterly checks. Special or infrequent use may require additional inspections, as directed by a qualified technician. These intervals help ensure continued structural integrity and safe lifting performance.

Asked November 14, 2025
Question:
What does the load testing process involve for this engine sling?
Answer:

Load testing requires lifting a weight equal to 125% of the sling’s rated capacity and holding it for one minute. After the test, technicians must inspect the sling for weld failures, deformation, or elongated holes. Passing this test verifies that the equipment remains structurally sound for continued use in engine maintenance operations.

Asked November 14, 2025
Question:
Are operators required to complete training before using the engine sling?
Answer:

Yes, the manual specifies that employers must provide a training program that covers safety procedures and the proper operation of the sling. Operators must receive hands-on training to ensure they can safely attach, adjust, and operate the device. Maintenance and troubleshooting are restricted to trained and skilled technicians due to the complexity of the equipment.

Asked November 14, 2025
Question:
Can the engine sling be modified for custom applications?
Answer:

No. Modifying the sling without written approval from Tronair is strictly prohibited. Unauthorized modifications void all warranties and release the manufacturer from liability for resulting issues. Only approved Tronair OEM replacement parts should be used to maintain compliance and safe operation.

Asked November 14, 2025
Question:
What steps are involved in transitioning the engine sling for use with a shipping container?
Answer:

To prepare an engine for shipment, technicians must level the engine using the tilt adjustment screws, install the inboard engine block and turnbuckle, and tighten the turnbuckle until the lower pins loosen. Once the load is shifted to the turnbuckle, the support plate pins can be removed, and the arm can be slid out. This procedure ensures the engine rests securely in the container without interference from the sling.

Asked November 14, 2025
Question:
Where can replacement parts for the 08-0129-4000 sling be purchased?
Answer:

PJi offers a wide range of OEM replacement parts and recommended spare kits, including beam assemblies, sling plates, acme rod assemblies, engine block assemblies, and ball-lock pin replacement kits. When ordering, please provide the model number, serial number, and paint color of your unit for accurate identification.

Asked November 14, 2025
Question:
Does the engine sling allow for rotation or tilting during lifting operations?
Answer:

Yes, the sling allows the AE-3007C engine to roll between -2° and +7°, depending on the configuration and adjustments made with the tilt screws. Both front and rear tilt adjustment screws must be turned simultaneously to achieve smooth and controlled changes. This capability assists with engine alignment during removal, installation, or container positioning.
