What is a chine, and how does this part differ from the adapter ring for tires with chines?
Answer:

A chine is a small groove molded into the rubber sidewall of an aircraft tire that helps deflect water and slush to the sides and away from the engine intakes. Chines are most often found on the nose landing gear of aircraft with fuselage-mounted engines.
