They are compact, easy to carry, and suitable for measuring ambient air temperatures, fluid temperatures, and surface temperatures of components that don't require specialized probes. Pocket thermometers are often used during routine inspections, pre-flight checks, and for verifying cabin and cargo hold temperatures.
