The CDI 1503MFRMH is a 1/2-inch drive, dual-scale micrometer click-type torque wrench covering 20–150 ft-lb (27.1–203.4 Nm) — the entry point into the CDI foot-pound metal handle family and the natural step up for mechanics who've reached the upper limits of what a 3/8-inch drive wrench handles comfortably. The 19-inch length and 3.15 lb build deliver better mechanical leverage across the full 150 ft-lb range, and the 1/2-inch drive provides the socket compatibility and stability that heavier airframe and drivetrain hardware requires.

The 1/2-inch drive range that covers light airframe and landing gear hardware

At 20–40 ft-lb the 1503MFRMH handles engine cowling fasteners, access panel hardware, and light landing gear door attach points. The 40–80 ft-lb mid-range covers wheel pant and fairing attach bolts, brake caliper mounting hardware, and nose gear shimmy damper fittings. Toward the 100–150 ft-lb ceiling it handles main gear axle nuts on light singles, engine mount attach bolts on smaller piston aircraft, and GSE wheel and caster hardware. One wrench, documented and certified, covers the full range of light airframe and gear work that defines day-to-day GA maintenance.

Documentation-ready for certificated maintenance

Every 1503MFRMH ships individually serialized with a NIST-traceable certificate of calibration, satisfying traceability requirements in FAA-accepted maintenance programs, Part 145 repair station QCMs, and ISO 9001 quality systems. Meets or exceeds ASME B107.14 and ISO 6789. Accuracy: ±4% CW, ±6% CCW of indicated value from 20–100% of full scale.

Why source aviation tooling from Pilot John International

Pilot John International is an aviation-specialist distributor — not a general industrial catalog. We serve Part 145 repair stations, FBOs, MRO operations, and flight schools across the U.S. We understand the documentation demands that come with landing gear and engine mount hardware — both are high-consequence work that auditors scrutinize closely. Our on-site ISO 17025-accredited calibration laboratory recertifies the 1503MFRMH and returns it with a current NIST-traceable certificate, keeping it in your tool crib and out of a discrepancy log.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Question:
Is the CDI 1503MFRMH acceptable for use in FAA Part 145 certificated repair stations?
Answer:

Yes. The 1503MFRMH ships with an individually serialized, NIST-traceable certificate of calibration and meets ASME B107.14 and ISO 6789 — the documentation and compliance requirements typically specified in Part 145 repair station Quality Control Manuals. Always verify against your facility's specific RSM requirements.

Asked May 3, 2026
Question:
When should I choose the 1503MFRMH over the 1002MFRMH, which covers a similar range?
Answer:

The 1002MFRMH covers 10–100 ft-lb on a 3/8-inch drive; the 1503MFRMH covers 20–150 ft-lb on a 1/2-inch drive. Choose the 1503MFRMH when your applications regularly reach 100–150 ft-lb, or when the fastener requires a 1/2-inch drive socket for proper fit or socket availability. The 1/2-inch drive also provides better mechanical stability at the higher end of the overlap range.

Question:
What is the torque range and graduation of the CDI 1503MFRMH?
Answer:

The 1503MFRMH covers 20–150 ft-lb (27.1–203.4 Nm) in 1 ft-lb increments. Accuracy is ±4% clockwise and ±6% counter-clockwise of indicated value from 20% to 100% of full scale — consistent with the tolerances cited in aircraft maintenance manuals for structural fasteners.

Question:
Can Pilot John International recalibrate the CDI 1503MFRMH after purchase?
Answer:

Yes. Pilot John International operates an ISO 17025-accredited, NIST-traceable calibration laboratory. We can recalibrate the 1503MFRMH and issue a new individually serialized certificate. Contact us directly for current pricing and turnaround time.
