QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Question:
What advantages does the extreme lift height of the Columbus Jack 153D1100 provide?
Answer:

The Columbus Jack 153D1100 offers a maximum extended height of 198", making it well-suited for servicing aircraft with exceptionally high fuselage or wing jacking points. This extended vertical reach is especially useful during landing gear replacement, structural inspections, and heavy maintenance procedures on narrow-body commercial aircraft. Maintenance facilities can also reduce the need for additional support equipment by using a high-reach aircraft tripod jack. Greater height capability improves flexibility across multiple maintenance applications.

Asked May 19, 2026
Question:
Why is the 110" closed height important for certain aircraft applications?
Answer:

A 110" closed height allows the jack to align properly with elevated aircraft jacking points before lifting begins. Aircraft such as the Airbus A320 and Boeing 757 often require taller tripod jacks due to their airframe geometry and maintenance access requirements. Starting at a higher closed height reduces setup adjustments and improves positioning efficiency. This can help technicians save time during scheduled maintenance procedures.

Asked May 19, 2026
Question:
How does the 70" hydraulic extension improve maintenance versatility?
Answer:

The 70" hydraulic extension provides substantial vertical travel during aircraft lifting operations. This extended hydraulic movement allows technicians to perform controlled lifts across a wide range of service heights while maintaining stable load support. Greater lifting travel is especially beneficial for undercarriage maintenance, landing gear servicing, and wheel replacement. It also allows the aircraft tripod jack to adapt to different maintenance scenarios more easily.

Asked May 19, 2026
Question:
What role does the 18" mechanical extension play during setup?
Answer:

The built-in 18" mechanical extension allows technicians to fine-tune the jack height before activating the hydraulic system. This feature helps reduce unnecessary hydraulic pumping while improving alignment with aircraft jacking points. Faster and more accurate positioning can improve maintenance workflow efficiency. Mechanical extension also helps minimize operator effort during initial setup procedures.

Asked May 19, 2026
Question:
Why is a 10-ton aircraft tripod jack suitable for Airbus A320 and Boeing 757 maintenance?
Answer:

A properly rated 10-ton aircraft tripod jack provides the lifting support required for specific fuselage and wing jacking points on approved aircraft platforms. The Columbus Jack 153D1100 has been OEM-approved for Airbus A320 and Boeing 757 applications, demonstrating compatibility with manufacturer maintenance procedures. Using approved lifting equipment helps support safe aircraft handling during inspections and repairs. Proper jack selection is essential for maintaining structural safety during maintenance operations.

Asked May 19, 2026
Question:
How does the large 52" base radius improve operational stability?
Answer:

The 52" base radius creates a very broad tripod footprint that enhances stability during aircraft lifting procedures. A larger base helps distribute load forces more evenly while reducing the risk of shifting or imbalance during maintenance work. This is especially important when lifting aircraft at greater heights, where stability becomes increasingly critical. Improved support geometry can help maintenance crews perform tasks with greater confidence and safety.

Asked May 19, 2026
Question:
Why is CE certification important for aviation maintenance equipment?
Answer:

CE certification indicates that the Columbus Jack 153D1100 meets recognized European safety and environmental standards. This can be important for international MRO facilities, airlines, and operators working in regulated global aviation markets. Using CE-marked aircraft maintenance equipment may help simplify procurement and compliance processes. It also demonstrates that the jack has been designed with established safety standards in mind.

Asked May 19, 2026
Question:
What benefits does the durable powder-coat finish provide?
Answer:

The durable powder-coat finish helps protect the aircraft tripod jack from corrosion, scratches, and exposure to aviation maintenance chemicals. Ground support equipment is often exposed to hydraulic fluids, moisture, and harsh hangar conditions that can damage untreated surfaces over time. A protective finish helps extend equipment lifespan while reducing long-term maintenance requirements. Preserving the jack’s exterior condition also supports a more professional maintenance environment.

Asked May 19, 2026
Question:
Why is MIL-PRF-5606 hydraulic fluid commonly used in aircraft jacks?
Answer:

MIL-PRF-5606 hydraulic fluid is widely used throughout the aviation industry because it provides dependable hydraulic performance across varying environmental conditions. Its low-temperature properties help maintain smooth hydraulic operation in colder climates, while its anti-wear characteristics protect internal components. Using aviation-approved hydraulic fluid also simplifies servicing procedures across multiple types of ground support equipment. Proper fluid compatibility is important for maintaining long-term hydraulic reliability.

Asked May 19, 2026
Question:
How do heavy-duty wheels improve hangar efficiency?
Answer:

Heavy-duty wheels allow technicians to maneuver the aircraft tripod jack more efficiently around hangars and maintenance areas despite its large size. Easier movement helps reduce setup time and operator strain when positioning the jack beneath aircraft jacking points. Durable wheels are also important for handling the weight and height of specialized high-reach aircraft jacks. Improved mobility contributes to more efficient maintenance operations and faster aircraft turnaround times.
