QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Question:
My Columbus Jack Model 9440-010 pneumatic aircraft jack will not raise the aircraft. The manual references an 'up' switch but I cannot identify it, and the jack seems to need fluid. What should I check?
Answer:

The Columbus Jack 9440-010 is a combined pneumatic/hydraulic jack. Before use, verify the hydraulic fluid level in the reservoir — low or empty fluid is the most common reason the jack fails to lift. Fill to the specified level with the correct hydraulic fluid per the maintenance manual. For the pneumatic operation: connect a nitrogen or compressed air hose to the air inlet fitting, ensure the air supply is at the correct pressure (refer to the manual for max PSI), then activate the control switch to the 'up' position to raise. Ensure the air supply is connected and pressurized before activating the switch.
