The H3R Aviation 397 Halotron 1 Fire Extinguisher is a heavy-duty clean agent extinguisher approved by the FAA for onboard aircraft use and built to meet the minimum performance standards outlined in DOT/FAA/AR-01/37. Filled with Halotron® 1, a nonconductive, residue-free alternative to Halon 1211, this extinguisher is effective on Class A, B, and C fires. It’s an excellent choice not only for flight line and ramp operations, but also for protecting sensitive equipment in computer rooms, telecom facilities, clean rooms, and marine environments.

Key Features

The 397 is a high-capacity Halotron fire extinguisher trusted for both aviation and industrial applications requiring clean-agent fire protection that’s safe, effective, and standards-compliant.

HAZMAT Notice

Halotron 1 fire extinguishers are classified as UN1044, Class 2.2 nonflammable gas, and are subject to hazardous materials (HAZMAT) transport regulations. According to USPS Publication 52, nearly all hazardous materials are prohibited in international mail, meaning Halotron 1 extinguishers cannot be shipped via international airmail. For domestic U.S. shipments, only specific surface-only limited-quantity exceptions may apply; otherwise, use certified HAZMAT ground carriers or IATA/ICAO-compliant cargo services (not postal airmail). Always comply with 49 CFR §173.309 and the applicable carrier's packaging, labeling, and documentation requirements.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Question:
What types of fires is the H3R Aviation 397 Halotron 1 fire extinguisher rated for?
Answer:

The H3R Aviation 397 Halotron 1 fire extinguisher is UL rated for Class B and Class C fires, making it effective against flammable liquids and energized electrical equipment. While it may suppress small Class A fires, it is primarily designed to address the fuel and electrical hazards common in aviation and hangar environments. Halotron 1 is a clean agent that leaves no residue, helping protect avionics and sensitive components. Always verify suitability for your specific aircraft or facility application.

Asked November 10, 2025
Question:
What are the advantages of Halotron 1 for aviation use?
Answer:

Halotron 1 discharges as a rapidly evaporating liquid that leaves no corrosive residue, unlike dry chemical fire extinguishers. This helps minimize cleanup time and reduces the risk of damage to avionics, instruments, and painted surfaces. It is lighter than many traditional extinguishing agents, improving handling and ease of use. These characteristics make the H3R Aviation 397 a practical fire protection solution in aviation environments.

Asked November 10, 2025
Question:
Does the H3R Aviation 397 include a mounting solution?
Answer:

Yes, the 397 Halotron 1 fire extinguisher includes a wall hook for secure mounting. This allows the extinguisher to be positioned for quick access in hangars, maintenance facilities, or other fixed locations. Proper mounting ensures visibility and rapid deployment during an emergency. Installation should follow applicable safety guidelines and local fire codes.

Asked November 10, 2025
Question:
How long does the H3R 397 discharge once activated?
Answer:

The H3R Aviation 397 typically provides approximately 10 seconds of discharge time, depending on application conditions. This allows for controlled, targeted fire suppression. Short, focused bursts are recommended rather than a continuous discharge. Familiarity with proper extinguisher use enhances the effectiveness of emergency response.

Asked November 10, 2025
Question:
Is the H3R 397 Halotron 1 fire extinguisher rechargeable?
Answer:

Yes, the 397 Halotron 1 fire extinguisher is rechargeable after discharge. Servicing must be completed by qualified fire equipment professionals in accordance with manufacturer and regulatory requirements. Routine inspection and maintenance help ensure operational readiness. Proper servicing supports long-term reliability and compliance.

Asked March 4, 2026
Question:
What inspection and maintenance requirements apply to the 397 Halotron 1 extinguisher?
Answer:

Regular inspection should include checking the pressure gauge, ensuring the safety pin and tamper seal are intact, and confirming the extinguisher is securely mounted on its wall hook. Maintenance intervals should follow manufacturer guidance and local fire safety regulations. Periodic professional servicing may be required to maintain compliance. Keeping inspection records helps support regulatory audits and operational safety.

Asked March 4, 2026
Question:
Is Halotron 1 allowed in Europe?
Answer:

For aviation applications, Halotron 1 (HCFC-Blend B) is not permitted for use within the European Union or EASA jurisdictions. European environmental regulations are driving a transition to fully halon-free alternatives such as Halotron BrX (2-BTP), which meet EU safety and sustainability standards. Operators flying into or operating within Europe should confirm compliance before installing a Halotron 1 fire extinguisher. Aircraft-specific approval is always recommended.

Asked March 4, 2026
Question:
What is the EU-approved alternative to Halotron 1?
Answer:

The recommended halon-free replacement for European aviation use is Halotron BrX. This next-generation clean agent offers comparable fire suppression performance while meeting EASA and EU environmental regulations. It is designed to provide effective cockpit and cabin fire protection without ozone-depleting components. Always confirm aircraft compatibility and regulatory approval prior to installation.

Asked March 4, 2026
Question:
Can Halotron 1 fire extinguishers be shipped internationally by air?
Answer:

No. Halotron 1 extinguishers cannot be shipped via international airmail because the U.S. Postal Service prohibits most hazardous materials in international mail. Classified as UN 1044 FIRE EXTINGUISHERS, Class 2.2 (nonflammable gas), Halotron 1 units must be transported by certified hazmat carriers in accordance with IATA/ICAO Dangerous Goods Regulations. Within the United States, shipments may be made using approved ground or domestic air methods.

Asked March 4, 2026
Question:
What transport and packaging classification applies to Halotron 1?
Answer:

Halotron 1 fire extinguishers are regulated under UN 1044 FIRE EXTINGUISHERS, Class 2.2 (nonflammable gas). Shipments must comply with U.S. DOT and international packaging, labeling, and documentation requirements. Proper hazard communication and documentation are essential for regulatory compliance. The manufacturer’s Safety Data Sheet (SDS) should accompany shipments when required.
