Aircraft Lithium Battery Fire Containment Bag

The Pioneer in Lithium-Ion Battery Fire Containment Technology

HOT-STOP® ‘L’ Fire Containment Bags are engineered to fully contain fires, explosions, and toxic smoke emissions from lithium-ion battery-powered devices occurring onboard aircraft or in helicopters.

The HOT-STOP® ‘L’ Evo Oversized Tablet Battery Fire Containment Bag is made specifically for newer MS Surface Pro and iPad Pro (cockpit electronic flight bag) devices. Exterior dimensions: 18" x 21". Interior dimensions: 12" x 11.5". Gloves are included.

What Makes HOT-STOP® ‘L’ Special?

HOT-STOP® ‘L’ bags have achieved FIREPROOF status by an FAA-registered laboratory. The felt inner core has a melting point of 3,200°F. This core is sandwiched between two outer layers – each with a 2,080°F melting point – that are proven to absorb energy and fire. Military-grade zipper technology adds an airtight layer of protection by eliminating the escape of toxic smoke, gases, carcinogens, and other harmful emissions.

Storage

Made of lightweight, pliable firefighting materials, HOT-STOP® ‘L’ bags are easy to fold and store in confined spaces, such as the cockpit or cabin of your aircraft. All HOT-STOP® ‘L’ containment bags are 1” to 2.5” thick and weigh just 4 to 8 lbs.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Question:
How should the HOT-STOP® ‘L’ oversized tablet fire containment bag be stored onboard an aircraft?
Answer:

For proper readiness, the HOT-STOP® ‘L’ oversized tablet containment bag should be stored unzipped with the pull strap positioned over the hook-and-loop closure. This staging method allows the bag to be deployed quickly during a lithium-ion battery incident involving a large tablet or similar device.

Because the bag is made from flexible fire-resistant materials, it can be stored compactly in cockpit or cabin emergency equipment compartments. Operators should periodically inspect the zipper and apply a light beeswax lubricant to ensure smooth operation.

Asked July 18, 2024
Question:
What steps should crews follow when deploying the HOT-STOP® ‘L’ oversized tablet containment bag?
Answer:

To deploy the bag, crew members should retrieve the containment kit and put on protective gloves if available. The overheating or damaged tablet should then be carefully placed inside the bag beneath the internal baffle system.

Next, pull the red “PULL” tab to close the hook-and-loop seam and zip the bag completely until the zipper reaches the stopper. Properly sealing the bag helps contain heat, flames, and smoke generated during a lithium-ion battery thermal runaway event.

Asked March 9, 2026
Question:
Does the HOT-STOP® ‘L’ oversized tablet containment bag include a warranty?
Answer:

Yes. HOT-STOP® ‘L’ fire containment bags are backed by a lifetime replacement warranty if the bag is deployed during an actual lithium-ion battery thermal runaway incident.

After such an event, operators must complete an incident report and return the used bag to the manufacturer for evaluation and replacement. This warranty program reflects the manufacturer’s confidence in the bag’s fire containment performance.

Asked March 9, 2026
Question:
What testing or certification supports the HOT-STOP® ‘L’ oversized tablet containment bag?
Answer:

The HOT-STOP® ‘L’ containment system has undergone burn testing in FAA-registered laboratories. Official burn test certificates and supporting documentation are available from the manufacturer.

These tests demonstrate the bag’s ability to withstand the extreme heat, pressure bursts, and smoke associated with lithium-ion battery fires. Operators can reference this documentation during safety audits or regulatory compliance reviews.

Asked March 9, 2026
Question:
How does the bag prevent the release of smoke or flames during a lithium-ion battery fire?
Answer:

The HOT-STOP® ‘L’ oversized tablet containment bag is constructed with multiple layers of fire-resistant materials, an airtight zipper system, and internal baffles. These features help trap flames, heat, and smoke generated during a thermal runaway event.

Once sealed, the containment system restricts oxygen flow and prevents toxic fumes from spreading throughout the aircraft cabin. Proper sealing of the zipper and hook-and-loop seam is essential to maintain containment effectiveness.

Asked March 9, 2026
Question:
Is the HOT-STOP® ‘L’ oversized tablet containment bag approved for use in aviation environments?
Answer:

Yes. HOT-STOP® ‘L’ containment bags are widely used by airlines, corporate flight departments, and other aviation operators as part of their lithium-ion battery fire mitigation procedures. They are designed to support onboard safety programs that address risks associated with portable electronic devices, such as large tablets and electronic flight bags (EFBs).

Asked March 9, 2026
Question:
Does the HOT-STOP® ‘L’ oversized tablet bag block RF or cellular signals from the device inside?
Answer:

Yes. HOT-STOP® ‘L’ containment bags incorporate shielding materials designed to limit cellular and radio frequency signals from devices placed inside the bag. By preventing a damaged tablet from attempting to reconnect to wireless networks, this shielding can help reduce additional heat generation during a battery failure event.

Asked March 9, 2026
Question:
What routine inspections should be performed on the HOT-STOP® ‘L’ oversized tablet containment bag?
Answer:

Operators should regularly inspect the zipper teeth, zipper stitching, pull-tab strap, and outer fire-resistant shell for signs of wear, cuts, or abrasions. If any damage is discovered that could affect the bag’s sealing capability or structural integrity, the bag should be removed from service and returned for repair or replacement. Storage pouches and carrying components should also be checked for damage.

Asked March 9, 2026
Question:
Is special training required to use the HOT-STOP® ‘L’ oversized tablet containment bag?
Answer:

The containment bag is designed for quick and intuitive deployment during an emergency. However, operators are encouraged to review the manufacturer’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) videos and guidance materials.

Many aviation organizations incorporate HOT-STOP® ‘L’ deployment procedures into crew emergency equipment training programs to ensure personnel can respond quickly to lithium-ion battery incidents.

Asked March 9, 2026
Question:
Does the HOT-STOP® ‘L’ oversized tablet containment bag require periodic maintenance?
Answer:
