The Pioneer in Lithium-Ion Battery Fire Containment Technology
HOT-STOP® ‘L’ Fire Containment Bags are engineered to fully contain fires, explosions, and toxic smoke emissions from lithium-ion battery-powered devices occurring onboard aircraft or in helicopters.
The HOT-STOP® ‘L’ Evo XL Battery Fire Containment Bag is large enough to accommodate defibrillators, large laptops, and all-in-one computers, as well as portable chargers and smaller electronics. Exterior dimensions: 27" x 26". Interior dimensions: 23" x 17". Gloves and a stowage strap are included.
What Makes HOT-STOP® ‘L’ Special?
HOT-STOP® ‘L’ bags have achieved FIREPROOF status by an FAA-registered laboratory. The felt inner core has a melting point of 3,200°F. This core is sandwiched between two outer layers – each with a 2,080°F melting point – that are proven to absorb energy and fire. Military-grade zipper technology adds an airtight layer of protection by eliminating the escape of toxic smoke, gases, carcinogens, and other harmful emissions.
Storage
Made of lightweight, pliable firefighting materials, HOT-STOP® ‘L’ bags are easy to fold and store in confined spaces, such as the cockpit or cabin of your aircraft. All HOT-STOP® ‘L’ containment bags are 1” to 2.5” thick and weigh just 4 to 8 lbs.
Deployment
HOT-STOP® ‘L’ bags are simple and intuitive to deploy – no matter which size you choose. It only takes 5 to 6 easy steps, and no aqueous liquids are required.
Low Maintenance
Minimal periodic maintenance is required, primarily consisting of periodic visual inspections.
Carry-On
HOT-STOP® ‘L’ bags are considered Carry-On Emergency Safety Equipment for aircraft.
Lifetime Replacement Warranty
If the bag is ever deployed to contain a thermal runaway of a lithium-ion powered device, the manufacturer will replace it for free.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
The EVO XL model is designed to contain runaway lithium-ion batteries from large portable electronic devices, such as laptops, flight-deck tablets, medical devices, power banks, and defibrillators. Smaller items, such as phones, can also be contained, as all HOT-STOP ‘L’ bags are shielded to block cellular signal transmission. This wide compatibility makes it suitable for both commercial airline cabins and business aviation operations.
For proper readiness, the EVO XL should be stored unzipped with the pull strap covering the hook-and-loop closure. This ensures rapid deployment during an in-flight battery event. The bag’s pliable materials allow compact storage in cockpit or cabin compartments. Regularly checking the zipper and applying a light coating of beeswax lubrication are recommended for smooth operation.
Deployment involves removing the kit, donning safety gloves, and placing the device below the interior baffles. The user then pulls the red “PULL” tab, seals the hook-and-loop seam, and zips the bag tightly against the stopper to ensure a proper airtight closure. Following these steps maintains the integrity of the thermal containment system.
Yes! HOT-STOP ‘L’ bags are covered by a lifetime replacement warranty if the bag is deployed during an actual lithium-ion battery runaway event. The operator must prepare an incident report and return the bag for replacement. This policy underscores the manufacturer’s confidence in the containment system.
Independent FAA-registered laboratory burn-test data and official burn certificates are available through the HOT-STOP® ‘L’ website. These certifications validate the bag’s ability to withstand extreme thermal events, pressure bursts, and toxic smoke containment. Operators can access updated documentation for compliance audits and safety reviews.
The EVO XL uses multi-layer fire-resistant fabrics, an airtight zipper, and internal baffles to contain flames, heat, and smoke. Once sealed, the containment system prevents oxygen from feeding the fire and restricts the escape of toxic fumes. Proper deployment is essential to maintain the integrity of the seal.
Yes! The bag is widely used by airlines, business aviation operators, and flight departments worldwide. It meets airworthiness expectations and undergoes ongoing testing to support compliance with airline safety programs. Its durability and performance have made it a standard component in many operators’ lithium-ion safety kits.
All HOT-STOP ‘L’ models, including the EVO XL, are constructed with shielding materials designed to contain cellular and RF signals. This prevents damaged devices from attempting to reconnect to networks, reducing the risk of overheating mobile phones. Signal containment is particularly beneficial during incidents on flight decks or in cabins.
Operators should regularly inspect the zipper teeth, zipper stitching, pull-tab strap, and outer shell for wear, cuts, or abrasions. Any damage that compromises sealing or structural integrity requires the bag to be removed from service and returned for repair. Storage bags and strap slings must also be checked for stitching quality and zipper condition.
While the containment kit is designed for intuitive, rapid deployment, operators should review the manufacturer’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) videos and onboard guidelines. Training ensures that flight crews can confidently deploy the bag under pressure. Most operators incorporate HOT-STOP ‘L’ procedures into their emergency equipment training cycles.
Beyond routine visual inspections, the only maintenance typically required is occasional zipper lubrication using beeswax to maintain smooth operation. Operators should ensure the bag is stored unzipped and properly staged for immediate use. Keeping the kit dry and clean helps preserve the fire-resistant materials over long service periods.
HOT-STOP ‘L’ bags are designed for single-event deployment when containing an actual lithium-ion thermal runaway. After such an incident, the bag must be returned under the lifetime warranty program. It may, however, be inspected and reused for training purposes, provided there is no damage.
The EVO XL is used across commercial aviation, business jet operations, military aviation, and healthcare environments where portable electronic devices are prevalent. It supports risk-prevention programs for organizations with safety-critical electronic equipment. Its versatility makes it valuable wherever lithium-ion battery incidents pose a threat.
SInce fire containment bags are considered loose tools and equipment, a Certificate of Conformance (CofC) is not typically required. However, a CofC can be issued if needed.
