KUNZ 227.2000 – Aircraft Brake Drain Unit (BDU)

The KUNZ 227.2000 Aircraft Brake Drain Unit (BDU) is designed to quickly evacuate hydraulic fluid from the hydraulic brake cylinders, allowing the pistons to move back into their housings easily for the assembly and disassembly of aircraft brakes.

The Brake Drain Unit eliminates the need to use a brake press – which is generally unclean and requires a great deal of force. This unit covers all sizes of commercial and military aircraft brakes.

The BDU is configured like a trolley, with built-in rollers for easy movement in and around the shop. The piston housing is placed on the platform, which also functions as a catch basin, in the event that the hydraulic fluid should leak.

The two connectors to the drain pump – one for each brake line – are located in the corner of the catch basin. The lower level of the trolley carries the double-walled container that stores the hydraulic fluids for disposal as well as the pump, which can be activated via a pushbutton on the housing of the Brake Drain Unit.

After connecting the brake to the Brake Drain Unit, you turn the machine on. The vacuum pump then drains all the hydraulic fluid in the brake cylinders and directs it to the container. Afterward, the brake cylinders can move back into their housings – the operator may assist this action by slightly pushing the pistons down.
