QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Question:
What makes the ACES Systems Cobra II different from other vibration analyzers?
Answer:

The ACES Systems Cobra II stands out for combining propeller balancing, rotor tracking, and vibration analysis in a single, lightweight device. It utilizes ACES’ proprietary AI Learning Algorithm to reduce the number of test runs required, thereby saving valuable maintenance time and fuel. Its full-color display and intuitive setup menus allow fast in-field operation without needing a separate computer connection.

Asked October 14, 2025
Question:
How are PDF test reports generated and stored?
Answer:

The Cobra II can generate complete PDF reports directly on the analyzer, eliminating the need for third-party software. These reports include balance data, vibration spectra, and corrective recommendations that can be exported via USB flash drive for printing or digital recordkeeping. This function simplifies documentation and supports traceability for maintenance compliance.

Asked October 14, 2025
Question:
Can the Cobra II be used on multiple aircraft types?
Answer:

Yes. The analyzer can store hundreds of aircraft and engine setups, and new configurations can be added using industry-standard polar charts. This versatility allows the same unit to be applied across a fleet, from small piston aircraft to turbine-powered helicopters, streamlining vibration monitoring operations.

Asked October 14, 2025
Question:
What kinds of tests can technicians perform with the Cobra II?
Answer:

Technicians can conduct a wide range of diagnostics, including propeller balance, main rotor track and balance, tail rotor balance, overall vibration survey, and vibration spectrum analysis. The Cobra II provides detailed spectral data to identify vibration peaks and harmonics, allowing early detection of bearing wear, imbalance, or misalignment.

Asked October 14, 2025
Question:
How does the ACES AI Learning Algorithm improve accuracy?
Answer:

The AI Learning Algorithm continuously refines balance solutions during each run by accounting for the unique characteristics of each engine-airframe combination. This self-learning process enables faster convergence to a precise correction weight and phase, reducing fuel burn and maintenance time. The analyzer effectively “learns” how the aircraft responds to adjustments, improving accuracy with use.

Asked October 14, 2025
Question:
What display technology is used on the Cobra II?
Answer:

The unit features a 7” day/night-readable color LCD screen with a super-bright LED backlight, ensuring visibility in hangars or on flight lines. The full spectral display enables real-time vibration monitoring and analysis, with cursors that allow quick identification of normal and harmonic peaks. This bright and rugged display is optimized for both daylight glare and low-light conditions.

Asked October 14, 2025
Question:
What power source does the analyzer use?
Answer:

The Cobra II operates on a rechargeable lithium-ion battery, providing several hours of operation in the field per charge. The battery supports repeated data acquisition and analysis cycles, and can be recharged using standard AC power when not in use. This portability allows technicians to work directly on the tarmac or hangar floor without needing an external power source.

Asked October 14, 2025
Question:
How portable is the ACES Systems Cobra II?
Answer:

Weighing only 6 lbs (2.8 kg), the Cobra II is designed for maximum portability. Its compact size allows it to fit easily into maintenance kits or transport casts for use at remote locations. Despite its small form factor, it provides test-cell-level accuracy in a handheld configuration.

Asked October 14, 2025
Question:
How does the analyzer ensure data accuracy in vibration measurements?
Answer:

The Cobra II achieves ± 1% accuracy across its full frequency range and supports vibration amplitudes from 9.5V Pk-Pk to 240 IPS Peak. It accepts signals from acceleration, velocity, or displacement sensors for a wide range of applications. These precise readings enable technicians to diagnose vibration problems with confidence and ensure that corrective actions meet OEM standards.

Asked October 14, 2025
Question:
Can vibration data be reviewed without a PC connection?
Answer:

Yes. All data review, setup adjustments, and report generation can be performed directly on the Cobra II unit, without the need for a laptop or external software. This standalone capability makes it particularly useful for field technicians who need to capture, analyze, and store data on-site.

Asked October 14, 2025
Question:
How does the Cobra II support regulatory compliance programs like MORE STC?
Answer:

The Cobra II is fully approved for use in the MORE PT-6 Program and other FAA-recognized maintenance initiatives. It captures the vibration data needed to comply with Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) maintenance requirements for turbine engines. This compatibility enables operators to maintain certification and extend engine time between overhaul (TBO) intervals, while ensuring reliability.

Asked October 14, 2025
Question:
How are sensors connected to the Cobra II?
Answer:

The unit accepts input from acceleration, velocity, and displacement sensors through its two simultaneous channels. An external charge amplifier can be used for charge-mode accelerometers, allowing flexible sensor integration for both piston and turbine aircraft. This adaptability supports comprehensive vibration analysis across a wide range of systems.

Asked October 14, 2025
Question:
What advantages does the Cobra II offer for time-sensitive maintenance?
Answer:

Because it refines its balance solution automatically after each run, the Cobra II minimizes trial-and-error balancing procedures, reducing total maintenance turnaround time. Technicians can achieve optimal balance more quickly, thereby lowering fuel costs and enhancing operational readiness. These time savings are particularly beneficial for commercial operators and MRO facilities that service multiple aircraft on a daily basis.

Asked October 14, 2025
Question:
How often should the Cobra II be calibrated?
Answer:

To maintain accuracy, ACES Systems recommends annual calibration or sooner if the analyzer experiences shock, exposure to fluids, or extreme environmental conditions. Regular calibration ensures that vibration and tachometer inputs remain within a ±1 percent tolerance. Calibration can be performed through ACES Systems or authorized service providers to ensure continued compliance and precision.
