The Barfield TT1200A is the latest digital turbine temperature test set and is upgraded over the TT1000A with many new features:

This completely self-contained, battery-powered unit is housed in a new high-visibility ruggedized enclosure. The turbine temperature unit is designed with sufficient accuracy and range to be able to test the newest digital and glass cockpit indicators with simplicity of operation, direct reading, and multi-function versatility.

The TT1200A is specifically designed to accomplish all requirements for testing the aircraft Chromel-Alumel (K type) turbine temperature measuring systems. The Test Set can measure resistances down to 0.001W, measure insulation up to 200 MW, perform indicator run-outs with a resolution of 0.1°C or 1°C and a range of 1372°C, and can also display the equivalent °F or millivoltages and may be used as a master indicator as well.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Question:
What is the warranty on the TT1200A Turbine Temperature Unit?
Answer:

The Barfield TT1200A Turbine Temperature Unit is backed by a standard one-year manufacturer’s warranty, offering peace of mind and protection against defects in materials and workmanship. This warranty ensures that operators can rely on the unit’s performance during routine use in turbine engine temperature monitoring. For full warranty terms and support details, consult the manufacturer’s documentation or contact your authorized distributor.

Asked August 30, 2023
Question:
Does the TT1200A come with the 101-00905 and 101-00906 adapter cables included?
Answer:

No, the TT1200A Turbine Temperature Unit does not include the 101-00905 or 101-00906 adapter cables. These specialized adapter cables must be purchased separately based on your aircraft’s specific requirements. Be sure to verify compatibility with your engine or system configuration before ordering the correct cable. If you’re unsure which adapter is needed, consult the product manual or contact our aviation specialists for assistance.

Asked February 13, 2024
Question:
What types of aircraft systems is the TT1200A compatible with?
Answer:

The Barfield TT1200A is designed to test and calibrate Chromel-Alumel (CH-AL) temperature indicating systems, making it ideal for use across a wide range of turbine engine aircraft. Its high accuracy and resistance simulation features support both moving-coil-type and servo-type indicators, and it's suitable for general, commercial, and military aviation environments.

Asked July 17, 2025
Question:
Can the TT1200A be used for hot engine testing?
Answer:

Yes! The TT1200A allows for hot engine testing, but it requires a specific procedure to ensure accurate readings. Users must perform resistance measurements with the test leads connected in both polarities and average the two readings. This compensates for thermocouple-generated voltages due to heat. However, if thermocouples are excessively hot, accuracy may suffer, so it's best to allow the engine to cool when possible.

Asked July 17, 2025
Question:
How often does the TT1200A require recertification?
Answer:

Barfield specifies that the TT1200A must be recertified annually to maintain accuracy and compliance. Recertification must be carried out by qualified technicians using certified equipment. Upon delivery or service, a certificate with the last test date and the next due date is included with each unit.

Asked July 17, 2025
Question:
What type of thermocouples does the TT1200A support?
Answer:

The TT1200A is specifically calibrated for K-type (Chromel–Alumel) thermocouples, which are common in aircraft turbine engine temperature systems. It can measure, simulate, and display thermocouple data in millivolts, degrees Fahrenheit, and Celsius, including ambient-compensated values.

Asked July 17, 2025
Question:
Is the TT1200A suitable for both field and bench testing?
Answer:

Absolutely! The unit is self-contained, battery-operated, and highly portable, housed in a rugged plastic carrying case with built-in lead storage and an operation placard inside the lid. Its lightweight design (7.3 lbs) makes the TT1200A ideal for use in both hangar maintenance bays and on-the-go diagnostics.

Asked July 17, 2025
Question:
Does the TT1200A offer automatic ambient temperature compensation?
Answer:

Yes! One of its key features is automatic cold junction compensation, which adjusts readings based on ambient temperature at the test lead connection. This improves measurement accuracy, especially in variable environmental conditions, by simulating the reference junction at 0°C.

Asked July 17, 2025
Question:
What battery type does the TT1200A use, and how long do they last?
Answer:

The TT1200A runs on six C-cell alkaline batteries, housed in two compartments. Battery life is displayed during startup and anytime the MENU button is pressed. The unit also includes a user-settable auto-off feature to conserve battery life, which can be adjusted in 5-minute increments up to 60 minutes.

Asked July 17, 2025
Question:
Can this unit simulate thermocouple outputs for indicator testing?
Answer:

Yes! The TT1200A can simulate thermocouple signals and system lead resistance from 2 to 25 ohms. This capability is especially useful for bench testing indicators without needing a live engine input, allowing technicians to verify calibration and operation safely and conveniently.

Asked July 17, 2025
Question:
How does the TT1200A handle insulation testing?
Answer:

The TT1200A can measure insulation resistance up to 200 MΩ using a nominal 45 VDC excitation source. This function is crucial for checking the integrity of wiring and preventing faults in the aircraft's temperature indication system. Results are displayed in real-time with selectable measurement ranges.

Asked July 17, 2025
Question:
What’s included with a new TT1200A?
Answer:

Each unit ships with a user instruction manual, a calibration certificate, and a set of standard test leads (part number 175-00215 or 175-00217, depending on the model). This ensures technicians have the documentation and tools needed for immediate operation upon receipt.

Asked July 17, 2025
Question:
What protections are built into the unit?
Answer:

The TT1200A includes input protection circuits and is designed to warn users if batteries are low or calibration is required. However, to avoid damage, it must not be connected to energized circuits and should never be operated with leads connected to aircraft indicators when pressing PTM or PTS buttons.

Asked July 17, 2025
Question:
Can the TT1200A detect cable type automatically?
Answer:

Yes. During initialization, the TT1200A automatically detects and identifies the type of cable connected – whether it’s a Standard, Doubler, or no cable (Test Cable mode). This smart detection streamlines setup and helps avoid connection errors during testing.
