QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Question:
What is the Nav-Aids ATR42-612 Air Data Accessories Kit, and which aircraft is it compatible with?
Answer:

The Nav-Aids ATR42-612 is a purpose-built air data accessories kit designed to test the complete pitot and static air data system from source on ATR 42 and ATR 72 aircraft. The kit provides everything maintenance technicians need to perform pitot-static system testing, including adapters, hose assemblies, lubricating fluid, and spare seals. It also includes the means to pre-test pitot test adapters, static adapters, and hoses before they are connected to the aircraft. All components are enclosed in a NANUK-ATR42 case assembly for organized storage and transport.

Asked April 14, 2026
Question:
Can the ATR42-612 kit components be pre-tested before being connected to the aircraft?
Answer:

Yes! The ATR42-612 kit is specifically designed to allow pre-testing of pitot test adapters, static adapters, and hoses before they are installed on the aircraft. For the static test adapters, the protective caps included with each unit serve as pre-test fixtures, allowing technicians to verify the integrity of the adapters, hose, and tester prior to installation. Pre-testing the components in advance helps ensure a reliable, leak-free connection once the adapters are fitted to the aircraft's probes and vents.

Asked April 14, 2026
Question:
What is the pre-test probe, and how is it used?
Answer:

The PT12294 Pre-Test Probe is used to verify the integrity of the pitot test adapters, connecting hoses, and test set before they are connected to the aircraft. The probe is installed in the pitot test adapter, simulating the pitot head and allowing technicians to confirm the adapter's internal and external integrity. Two pre-test probes are included in the ATR42-612 kit – one for each pitot system.

Asked April 14, 2026
Question:
How should lubricating fluid be applied to the adapters, and why is it important to use only the approved lubricant?
Answer:

Nav-Aids LF5050 Lubricating Fluid is used to lubricate the interior glands of the pitot and static test adapters before installation, helping to extend seal life and ensure smooth installation onto the aircraft's probes. To apply, place just one or two drops onto the surface of the applicable pre-test probe, then insert the probe into the adapter using a slight clockwise/counterclockwise rotation during the pre-test stage. Only a very small amount is needed. It is critical to use only Nav-Aids LF5050 for this purpose – the use of any other lubricant may have adverse effects that could constitute a flight safety hazard.

Asked April 14, 2026
Question:
How do I install the piitot test adapter?
Answer:

Installation of the P22942M1-4 Pitot Test Adapter is straightforward. Begin by backing off the compression nut, then fit the adapter onto the pitot tube, making sure the probe tip is seated on the Teflon snubber of the pitot adapter. Holding the unit firmly in this position, tighten the compression nut to secure it in place. Finally, adjust the blanking pads to cover the drain holes.

Asked April 14, 2026
Question:
How do the pitot and static test hose assemblies work?
Answer:

The pitot test hose assembly (42-7270) connects to the pitot inlet of the adapters and includes a connection to the pitot outlet of the pneumatic generator. It is fitted with double-acting quick disconnects, which are useful when testing only one pitot system at a time.

The static test hose assembly (42-5160) operates in the same manner, using double-acting quick disconnects and an extension hose that connects to the pneumatic generator's static outlet. Both assemblies allow each system to be tested separately or simultaneously.

Asked April 14, 2026
Question:
How is the static test adapter installed?
Answer:

Installing the 33410HH-125-4 Static Test Adapter is a simple process, but one step must be completed in the correct order. Before fitting the adapter to the aircraft, attach the hose to the unit first – attempting to connect the hose after the adapter is already installed on the aircraft is not recommended.

Asked April 14, 2026
Question:
How do I attach the static test adapter to the aircraft's static vent?
Answer:

To attach the 33410HH-125-4 Static Test Adapter to the aircraft's static vent, depress the piston fully, insert the unit into the center hole of the static vent, and release the piston to secure it in place. To remove the adapter, depress the piston fully once more. As noted in the installation instructions, always attach the hose to the adapter before fitting it to the aircraft.

Asked April 14, 2026
Question:
What is the static blanking adapter, and how is it used?
Answer:

The 33410HB-125 Static Blanking Adapter is used in conjunction with the static test adapter during pitot-static system testing on ATR 42 and ATR 72 aircraft. When a static test adapter is connected to one static vent, the blanking adapter seals the matching static vent on the opposite side of the aircraft. Two static blanking adapters are included in the ATR42-612 kit, along with four spare seals (HH334-7) for both the static test adapters and the blanking adapters.
