Overall, the landing gear strut shows excellent durability and smooth operation. The hydraulic system performs within expected parameters, with no leaks or signs of wear. However, there is a minor cosmetic dent on the outer casing that does not affect functionality. Recommend further monitoring during the next inspection cycle

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Question:
How does the sliding-pin mechanism on this towbar head work?
Answer:

The sliding pin is part of the attachment system that engages securely with the aircraft tow fitting, using a ball-lock pin to hold it in position during towing operations. The pin must move freely and lock firmly to prevent lateral movement or accidental disconnection. Proper sliding-pin engagement is a key safety requirement before towing.

Asked November 20, 2025
Question:
What routine inspections should be performed before use?
Answer:

Operators should inspect the weldments, sliding pin, side rails, shear plates, and retaining pins for cracks, bending, or excessive wear before each use. The ball-lock pin must be securely attached via its lanyard and show no signs of looseness or missing hardware. Any abnormal condition requires removal from service and evaluation by a qualified technician.

Asked November 20, 2025
Question:
Can operators perform their own repairs on this towbar head?
Answer:

Repairs or modifications must not be performed by operators unless explicitly approved in writing by Tronair. Unauthorized repairs or non-OEM parts immediately void the warranty and may introduce structural weakness. Operators are responsible only for routine inspections; repairs must be completed by trained maintenance personnel or an authorized service provider, such as PJi.

Asked November 20, 2025
Question:
How should the towbar head be attached during aircraft towing?
Answer:

Tronair recommends attaching the towbar head to the aircraft first, then connecting the towbar to the tug to avoid accidental aircraft damage during alignment. The sliding pin must be locked with the ball-lock pin before any movement. Operators should visually and physically confirm full engagement before towing begins.

Asked November 20, 2025
Question:
How does improper tug coupling cause damage?
Answer:

The manual warns that certain tug couplers – such as lift-head latches, swivel hooks, and vertical side-swing latches – can cause binding and failure of the towbar eyebolt. Binding can produce wear and indentation marks on the eyebolt and may eventually lead to structural failure. Tronair recommends pintle hooks that maintain proper alignment to prevent stress concentration.

Asked November 20, 2025
Question:
What towing angle limitations should operators be aware of?
Answer:

Damage can occur if the towbar angle becomes too steep or if the tug turns sharply during operation. Tronair specifies that the angle between tug and towbar should not exceed 90° to prevent weldment contact or overstressing the towbar head. Proper tug-towbar alignment protects both the aircraft and the equipment.

Asked November 20, 2025
Question:
Are spare parts available for this towbar head?
Answer:

Yes. PJi provides a wide range of OEM replacement parts for this towbar head attachment, including items such as sliding pins, bushings, lanyards, shear pins, and bolt kits. When ordering, please provide your model number, serial number, and unit color to ensure correct part matching. Only genuine Tronair parts are approved for use.

Asked November 20, 2025
Question:
What warranty is offered on this unit?
Answer:

All Tronair products, including the 01-0801-0010 Towbar Head Attachment, carry a one-year warranty that covers defects in materials and manufacturing. Replacement parts are covered under a 90-day warranty. This warranty excludes normal wear items and issues caused by misuse or unauthorized modification.
