Unit is very well put together, rolls smoothly and is quiet. CGSE kept me informed throughout the process with updates from the manufacture and set up the unit to be painted a different color in the factory to match our company colors.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Question:
Can this unit be used to power two aircraft at the same time on 28V DC?
Answer:

Yes, the Tronair 112860D0100 GPU features two 28V DC output cables that can be connected to aircraft simultaneously, provided the total current draw does not exceed the unit’s maximum rated capacity of 600 amps. This makes it suitable for powering or servicing two aircraft at once during ramp or hangar operations. Operators should always monitor total load to avoid exceeding the rated output and ensure safe, reliable performance.

DC aircraft cable lengths available:

  • 20-ft cable – Standard cable with aircraft plug, suitable for general GPU operations, including engine starting.
  • 50-ft cable – Extended length option designed for continuous amperage delivery in hangar settings. This cable is not approved for engine starting and should only be used for continuous power applications.
Asked May 17, 2023
Question:
Does the 112860D0100 GPU provide overload protection?
Answer:

Yes, the unit includes built-in overload and short-circuit protection to safeguard both the GPU and the connected aircraft. The rectifier monitors current output and prevents load conditions from exceeding the rated 600 amps. This protection reduces the risk of equipment damage and enhances operator safety.

Asked September 8, 2025
Question:
How portable is this GPU for hangar or ramp use?
Answer:

The GPU is mounted on a heavy-duty caster and towbar assembly, allowing it to be towed at speeds up to 5 mph (8 km/h) across hangar floors or ramps. Its rugged steel construction ensures stability during movement while protecting internal components. This portability makes it ideal for both indoor and outdoor ground support operations.

Asked September 8, 2025
Question:
What type of cooling system does the GPU use?
Answer:

The Tronair 112860D0100 GPU is air-cooled, using high-efficiency fans to maintain safe operating temperatures. Proper ventilation around the unit is essential to avoid overheating during extended use. Operators should routinely inspect fan intakes and filters to ensure airflow is not restricted.

Asked September 8, 2025
Question:
What are the environmental operating limits for this GPU?
Answer:

The unit is designed to operate in ambient temperatures ranging from -25°F to 125°F (-32°C to 52°C). It should not be used in environments outside these limits to avoid performance degradation or equipment damage. Storage conditions should also remain within this range to preserve component life.

Asked September 8, 2025
Question:
How often should the filters and fans be inspected?
Answer:

Tronair recommends inspecting the unit’s air filters and cooling fans during routine maintenance or whenever airflow appears restricted. Clogged filters or blocked fans can reduce efficiency and lead to overheating. Regular inspection and cleaning ensure optimal performance and extend equipment lifespan.

Asked September 8, 2025
Question:
What safety steps should be followed before operating the GPU?
Answer:

Before operation, the GPU should be positioned on a level surface with wheel chocks in place. Operators must verify that all electrical connections are secure, ensure the correct input voltage is available, and check the output cables for wear or damage. Following these steps minimizes operational hazards and ensures safe power delivery.

Asked September 8, 2025
Question:
How is the output voltage regulated?
Answer:

The 112860D0100 GPU uses a solid-state rectifier system with precision regulation to maintain a stable 28V DC output. This regulation ensures that sensitive aircraft avionics and electrical systems receive consistent, reliable power. Maintaining stable voltage is especially critical during engine start and continuous servicing.

Asked September 8, 2025
Question:
Can this GPU be used outdoors?
Answer:

Yes, the unit is built for rugged ramp use, but it must be protected from standing water and operated in well-ventilated conditions. While the steel enclosure provides durability, it is not fully waterproof, so storage under cover is recommended when not in use. Using the GPU responsibly outdoors maximizes safety and service life.

Asked September 8, 2025
Question:
What maintenance tasks are recommended for this GPU?
Answer:

Routine maintenance includes inspecting output cables, checking electrical connections, cleaning air filters, and verifying fan operation. Annual inspections should also include calibrating gauges and reviewing overload protection systems. Preventative care ensures reliable GPU operation and reduces the likelihood of unexpected downtime.
