The Pioneer in Lithium-Ion Battery Fire Containment Technology
HOT-STOP® ‘L’ Fire Containment Bags are engineered to fully contain fires, explosions, and toxic smoke emissions from lithium-ion battery-powered devices occurring onboard aircraft or in helicopters.
What Makes HOT-STOP® ‘L’ Special?
HOT-STOP® ‘L’ bags have achieved FIREPROOF status by an FAA-registered laboratory. The felt inner core has a melting point of 3,200°F. This core is sandwiched between two outer layers – each with a 2,080°F melting point – that are proven to absorb energy and fire. Military-grade zipper technology adds an airtight layer of protection by eliminating the escape of toxic smoke, gases, carcinogens, and other harmful emissions.
Storage
Made of lightweight, pliable firefighting materials, HOT-STOP® ‘L’ bags are easy to fold and store in confined spaces, such as the cockpit or cabin of your aircraft. All HOT-STOP® ‘L’ containment bags are 1” to 2.5” thick and weigh just 4 to 8 lbs.
Deployment
HOT-STOP® ‘L’ bags are simple and intuitive to deploy – no matter which size you choose. It only takes five to six easy steps, and no aqueous liquids are required.
Carry-On
HOT-STOP® ‘L’ bags are considered carry-on emergency safety equipment for aircraft.
Lifetime Replacement Warranty
If the bag is ever deployed to contain a thermal runaway of a lithium-ion powered device, the manufacturer will replace it for free.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
Lithium-ion batteries are widely used in passenger electronics and critical onboard systems, but they can overheat and enter thermal runaway, releasing flames, toxic gases, and debris. In the confined environment of an aircraft cabin or cockpit, this presents a significant safety risk. Containment solutions like the HOT-STOP® ’L’ Evo are essential to isolate, suppress, and contain battery fires before they can compromise passenger or crew safety.
The HOT-STOP® ’L’ Evo Laptop Bag is engineered to contain fires, explosions, and toxic smoke from overheating lithium-ion batteries. Its multi-layer construction and airtight military-grade zipper system prevent flames and emissions from escaping, minimizing fire escalation and cabin contamination. This design provides aviation operators with reliable, rapid-response protection against lithium-ion battery hazards.
The bag combines proprietary fire-resistant materials with an airtight zipper and hook-and-loop closure system. This construction traps flames, heat, smoke, and debris inside the bag, significantly reducing the risk of toxic exposure or secondary fires. By fully isolating the event, the Evo ensures safer conditions for both passengers and crew during an emergency.
Unlike heavy or rigid fire containment boxes or blankets, the HOT-STOP® ’L’ Evo is lightweight, flexible, and easy to deploy in tight cabin spaces. Its pliable construction makes stowing simple without reducing containment effectiveness. This balance of portability and proven fire protection is why many airlines and operators prefer the Evo.
Yes, the Evo Laptop Bag is versatile enough to contain not only laptops but also smaller portable electronics powered by lithium-ion batteries. Tablets, e-readers, and similar devices can also be safely isolated inside the bag if they enter thermal runaway. This adaptability makes it a valuable solution for today’s passenger cabins, where many devices are in use.
The Evo Laptop Bag safely contains devices with lithium-ion batteries ranging from 2,000 to 6,500 mAh, which covers most laptops and many other common electronic devices. This capacity range ensures it can manage the types of batteries most likely to cause safety incidents during flight.
The Evo has been extensively tested at Aeroblaze Laboratory, accredited to ISO/IEC 17025 standards, as well as other FAA-registered labs. It exceeds FAA 14 CFR Part 25.853 Appendix F flammability requirements and has achieved official FIREPROOF status. Ongoing evaluations ensure its effectiveness keeps pace with advances in lithium-ion battery technology.
Yes, the Evo meets FAA flammability requirements and has been certified to rigorous burn standards. Its compliance makes it suitable for use in both commercial and private aviation, as well as for government and military applications.
The exterior dimensions are 24" x 21", and the interior space is 17" x 12.5". The unit weighs about 6.5 lbs, making it light enough for quick handling while still providing the rugged protection needed for lithium-ion fire containment.
The bag should be placed in an accessible location, such as the cockpit or cabin, for rapid deployment. Its pliable design allows it to fold into tight storage areas, and manufacturers recommend keeping it unzipped with the pull strap covering the hook-and-loop closure for faster access during emergencies.
Deployment involves six steps: remove the kit from storage, put on fireproof gloves, place the overheating device inside below the interior baffles, pull the red “PULL” tab to expose the closure, seal the seam by pressing along the Velcro, and zip it tightly shut. These steps are quick and straightforward, enabling effective action even under high-stress conditions.
Yes, every HOT-STOP® ’L’ Evo Bag includes a pair of high-heat fireproof gloves. These gloves protect operators from burns while handling overheating devices, ensuring the kit is fully equipped for immediate response.
Maintenance is minimal and consists of routine visual inspections. Operators should check the zipper, closure strap, and shell for wear, damage, or pulled stitching. If issues are detected, the unit should be removed from service and returned for repair or replacement.
The Evo comes with a lifetime replacement warranty. If the bag is deployed during a lithium-ion fire emergency, operators can report the incident and receive a new unit free of charge. This policy ensures continuous protection without added cost.
No, once the bag has been deployed in a real thermal runaway incident, it should be taken out of service. However, thanks to the lifetime replacement warranty, operators receive a free replacement bag from the manufacturer to maintain readiness.
No, the Evo does not use aqueous agents or chemical suppressants. Its effectiveness relies solely on advanced fire-resistant materials and airtight construction, making it simpler and safer to deploy than systems that require additives.
By default, HOT-STOP® ’L’ bags are classified as loose tools and do not typically include a Certificate of Conformance (CofC). However, a CofC can be provided upon request to meet operator or maintenance program requirements.
While designed for aviation, the Evo is also used in government, military, and healthcare sectors. Its ability to safely contain lithium-ion battery fires makes it valuable anywhere battery-powered equipment presents potential fire risks.
