Need a Quote?
The START PAC Li2800QC is a compact, portable lithium-ion starting unit and 28V DC battery pack. This mobile unit provides superior starts on electrically started turbine engines. It has dual, redundant chargers with a total of 7 amps output and a recharge time of approximately 4 hours.
Designed for engine starting only, this lithium-ion GPU is the lightest available on the market, making the unit ideal for preserving aircraft batteries and starting any electrically started engine, including the Garrett/Honeywell TPE331.
NOTE: This unit is not to be used as an aircraft battery charger.
Key Features
The all-new START PAC Li2800QC utilizes the latest technology in lithium-ion batteries. These batteries provide the same power as the lead-acid type but are 42% lighter and 32% smaller. In addition, lithium GPU batteries have two other major advantages:
- Twice the battery life of lead-acid batteries
- No sulfation problems (can be left in a discharged state without causing damage to the battery plates)

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
The Li2800QC uses a lithium-ion chemistry that eliminates the risk of acid spills and significantly reduces weight compared to traditional lead-acid units. It features built-in protection circuitry to prevent overcharging, over-discharging, and short circuits, ensuring safe operation in demanding environments. The sealed design also resists vibration and temperature extremes, making it well-suited for ramp or hangar use. This safety profile helps reduce maintenance requirements and extends service life.
Yes! The Start Pac Li2800QC is compatible with both turbine and piston engine aircraft requiring a 28V DC power source. It delivers the necessary high amperage for turbine starts while providing stable, consistent power for piston engine cranking. This versatility makes it a valuable tool for operators with mixed fleets. Always verify voltage and connector compatibility with your aircraft before use.
The QC feature allows the battery pack to be swapped out in seconds without tools, reducing downtime between starts. This is especially valuable for busy flight operations or maintenance crews who need uninterrupted access to portable power. Operators can keep a spare, fully charged pack on hand to maintain readiness. This modularity also simplifies servicing, as only the battery module needs replacing – not the entire unit.
Routine maintenance is minimal thanks to the lithium-ion design, but proper charging habits are essential. The unit should be recharged after each use and kept at full charge when stored for extended periods. Start Pac recommends charging the pack every 30 days if not in regular use to maintain battery health. Following these guidelines ensures optimal performance and longevity.
Yes, the Li2800QC is designed to work with its dedicated Start Pac lithium-ion charger, which ensures the battery is charged to the correct voltage and current specifications. Using an unapproved charger can damage the battery and void the warranty. The charger includes safeguards to prevent overcharging and is optimized for rapid recharge times. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions when connecting and disconnecting the charger.
The Li2800QC performs reliably across a wide temperature range, but like all batteries, extreme cold can reduce cranking capacity. In very low temperatures, pre-warming the battery or storing it in a temperature-controlled environment can help maintain peak performance. High-temperature environments are less problematic but should be monitored to avoid long-term heat exposure. The unit’s robust casing and electronics are designed to handle typical field conditions.
Start Pac offers a variety of replacement parts and accessories, including battery modules, chargers, quick-change brackets, and protective covers. These components are designed for compatibility with the Li2800QC, ensuring proper fit and function. Keeping spare parts on hand helps minimize downtime in case of unexpected wear or damage. Accessories like carrying cases and cable options can also enhance mobility and ease of use.
Yes! The Li2800QC's portability and self-contained power make it ideal for remote locations without access to external power. The lightweight design and built-in carrying handle make transport easy. Depending on the engine type and condition, operators can perform multiple starts in the field before needing a recharge. This independence is valuable for bush flying, agricultural operations, or emergency services.
The Li2800QC delivers clean, stable DC power, which helps protect sensitive avionics and electrical systems during engine start. Unlike some power sources, it minimizes voltage spikes and fluctuations. This is particularly beneficial for modern aircraft with advanced electronics. Properly connecting the unit ensures safe, damage-free operation.
Start Pac provides a two-year warranty on the Li2800QC battery pack and related components, covering defects in materials and workmanship. This warranty reflects the company’s confidence in its lithium-ion technology and build quality. To maintain coverage, users must follow all operating and charging instructions. Warranty service is handled directly through Start Pac or authorized dealers.
Yes! The Start Pac Li2800QC includes a standard 3-pin aircraft cable, ensuring compatibility with most 28V aircraft power receptacles. This heavy-duty cable is designed to deliver reliable, high-amperage power for safe and efficient engine starts. Its robust construction helps withstand the demands of ramp and hangar environments, providing a secure connection between the portable starting unit and the aircraft. Having this cable included means you can begin using your Li2800QC right out of the box without needing to purchase additional connectors.
