QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
Operators should inspect all welded joints between the connector tube, side rails, and head rail for cracks and verify the sliding pin for signs of bending or wear. The ball-lock T-pin must move freely and be securely attached by its lanyard. Damaged or bent components should be replaced immediately to maintain towing safety.
Attach the towbar head to the multi-head towbar using the ball-lock T-pin supplied with the towbar, ensuring it locks fully into place. The sliding pin should be positioned according to the specific Citation model – inner hole for Citation III, VI, VII, and Excel; and adjusted accordingly for the Citation X. Refer to the Tronair Operations Manual for further information.
Only use the 01-0594-0000 head for its intended Citation models and with a Category 1 or 2 tug for aircraft with a gross weight up to 75,000 lbs. A damaged or bent towbar or head should never be used, as excessive stress can cause mechanical failure or aircraft damage.
Tronair recommends weekly inspections of welds, pins, and fasteners. Checks should include side-rail alignment, sliding-pin function, shear-pin integrity, and rust prevention; damaged or worn components should be replaced promptly.
Signs of pin wear include binding, rough movement, bent shafts, or missing retaining pins. A sliding pin should move smoothly within its housing. If it binds or sticks, remove and clean the assembly, or contact Tronair for replacement parts.
PJi offers OEM individual replacement parts as well as kits for the Tronair 01-0594-0000 Towbar Head. Common replacement components include the K-3461 Ball-Lock T-Pin Kit and the K-3783 Sliding Pin Handle Kit, both of which contain OEM hardware for direct substitution. Always provide the towbar head’s model, serial number, and color when ordering parts.
Tronair warrants the 01-0594-0000 towbar head against material and manufacturing defects for a period of one year from the date of shipment. Normal wear parts and third-party components may have shorter warranties. Unauthorized modifications or non-OEM repairs immediately void warranty coverage.
Attach the towbar head to the aircraft first, then connect to the tug to avoid accidental contact or misalignment. Maintain a level towbar angle – avoid excessive upward or downward tilt – and use an appropriate pintle hook height to prevent wheel drag or ground strikes.
The Operation Manual advises using a horizontal pintle hook configuration to eliminate eyebolt binding. Avoid vertical swing latches or swivel hooks, as they can cause stress concentrations and lead to the eventual failure of the eyebolt.
Maintain a towing angle of no more than 90 degrees between the tug and towbar to prevent contact between the towbar weldment and tug frame. Exceeding this angle may cause structural damage to the equipment or the aircraft being towed.
The 01-0594-0000 towbar head meets the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC and EN ISO 12100-1 safety standards. Operators must retain the Declaration of Conformity provided with the equipment and document regular inspections to preserve compliance.
