QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Question:
What aircraft is the Tronair 01-0602-0000 towbar head designed for?
Answer:

The Tronair 01-0602-0000 is a towbar head attachment built specifically for the Dassault Falcon 7X and 8X aircraft. Using an aircraft-specific towbar head helps ensure proper tow point engagement and safer ground handling during towing operations. It’s designed to interface correctly with the aircraft’s tow point geometry for more controlled movement on the ramp.

Asked May 28, 2024
Question:
Which Tronair towbars is this head attachment compatible with?
Answer:

This towbar head attachment is designed for use with Tronair Multi-Head Towbar Models 01-1201-0010, 01-1202-0000, 01-1215-0000, 01-1216-0000, and 01-1290-0100. Matching the correct towbar and head is important for safe towing loads and a proper fit at the connection point. Always verify the towbar model before putting the unit into service.

Asked January 29, 2026
Question:
What is the part number for the replacement shear pin for this towbar head?
Answer:

The replacement shear pin for the Tronair 01-0602-0000 Towbar Head Attachment is H-3000. Tronair recommends keeping spare shear pins on hand for quick replacement and continued safe towing operations. For best performance and proper shear protection, use only Tronair-specified shear pins.

Asked January 29, 2026
Question:
Why does this towbar head use a shear pin system?
Answer:

Shear pins are designed to help protect the towbar and aircraft by acting as a controlled “weak link” if excessive towing forces occur. The 01-0602-0000 incorporates radial and tension/compression shear protection, which helps reduce the risk of transferring damaging loads into the aircraft tow point. If a shear pin bends or breaks, it’s a clear sign the towbar head should be inspected before returning to service.

Asked January 29, 2026
Question:
What should operators inspect before using the towbar head attachment?
Answer:

Before use, operators should inspect the unit for weld cracks, bent components, shear plate condition, axle adaptor wear, and proper fastener tightness. The shear pin and shear pin bushings should also be checked for bending, cracking, or missing parts. These checks help prevent towing incidents and reduce the chance of aircraft or equipment damage.

Asked January 29, 2026
Question:
What should you do if the towbar head or the towbar is bent or damaged?
Answer:

A damaged or bent towbar should not be used and should be repaired or replaced before returning to operation. Continuing to tow with damaged equipment increases the risk of failure, potentially resulting in aircraft damage and serious injury. Removing questionable equipment from service is one of the simplest ways to improve towing safety.

Asked January 29, 2026
Question:
Why does Tronair recommend using only matching Tronair heads, towbars, and shear pins?
Answer:

Tronair specifies that its towbars and towbar heads must only be used with matching Tronair heads/towbars and Tronair shear pins. This helps ensure the tow system functions as designed, including proper shear protection and towing geometry. Using non-approved parts can compromise performance and may increase the risk of damage during aircraft movement.

Asked January 29, 2026
Question:
Is it recommended to connect the towbar to the aircraft first or the tug first?
Answer:

Tronair recommends attaching the towbar to the aircraft first and then connecting it to the tug. This helps reduce the chance of accidental aircraft damage during hookup. It’s also important to ensure the sliding pins are locked in place before towing begins.

Asked January 29, 2026
Question:
Why does the towbar angle matter during towing operations?
Answer:

An excessive towbar angle can cause equipment stress and potentially damage the towbar or aircraft. Tronair notes that keeping the towbar as level as possible helps reduce towing issues, especially when working with different tow point heights. Maintaining safe geometry during towing supports smoother movement and better control.

Asked January 29, 2026
Question:
What is the recommended towing weight limit guidance for safe operation?
Answer:

Tronair recommends using a towbar with a Category 1 or Category 2 tug and aircraft not exceeding 75,000 lbs gross weight for safe operation guidance. Exceeding recommended limits can increase loads and stresses, potentially leading to towbar failure. Following towing guidance helps protect both the aircraft and ground crews during ramp operations.
