Carbon Monoxide Analyzers

Carbon monoxide analyzers are used to detect and measure the concentration of carbon monoxide (CO) gas in the air. This is crucial because CO is a colorless, odorless, and highly toxic gas that can be lethal even at low concentrations. The analyzer helps ensure safety in environments where CO might be produced, such as during the operation of combustion appliances or in industrial settings.

A carbon monoxide analyzer uses an electrochemical sensor to detect the presence of CO gas. When carbon monoxide is present, it reacts with the sensor to produce an electrical current, which the analyzer then converts into a readable concentration value, usually expressed in parts per million (ppm). This allows users to monitor and assess the level of CO in the environment.

When selecting a carbon monoxide analyzer, look for features such as high sensitivity (ability to detect low levels of CO), a digital display for easy reading, audible alarms that sound when carbon monoxide levels become dangerous, data logging capabilities, and long battery life. Some advanced models also offer wireless connectivity for remote monitoring.

A pump-driven carbon monoxide analyzer is a much more versatile tool. The pump draws a sample into the instrument, which allows source pinpointing. A pump-driven instrument responds faster as well, and it can also be used for hot air (flue) sampling.

Calibration frequency depends on how the instrument is used. If used for service work, annual calibration is recommended. If any aspect of worker safety is included in the instrument's job, monthly calibration is recommended.
