The built-in hydraulic hand pump allows operators to raise and lower the towing head with precision. This adjustability not only makes alignment with aircraft tow fittings easier but also improves safety by reducing manual handling. Additionally, the landing gear can be repositioned or flipped to optimize balance and downward force.

Towbar balance ensures safe, controlled handling during aircraft towing. Different towbar heads can shift the center of gravity, so operators must adjust landing gear placement accordingly. Tronair provides guidance for balancing the unit depending on whether the head has a fixed jaw above or below the latch.

Operators must never crawl under a loaded towbar and should keep hands and feet clear of moving parts. Walking around – rather than over – the towbar reduces injury risks. Additionally, damaged or bent towbars should be immediately removed from service, as continued use can compromise safety.

Using couplers such as swivel hooks, vertical side swing latches, and standard-duty latches can cause binding and eyebolt wear. Tronair recommends a telecoupler pintle hook arrangement, such as the 01-1950-5000, which reduces binding and prolongs equipment life.

The maximum towing speed is 6.2 mph (10 km/h) during the day in good weather and 3.1 mph (5 km/h) during the night or inclement conditions. Exceeding these limits can damage both the towbar and the aircraft. Following these guidelines helps maintain safe and controlled towing operations.

Operators should first lower the landing gear wheels using the hydraulic pump to remove weight from the towbar. The tug should then be disconnected before detaching the towbar head from the aircraft tow fitting. Finally, the towbar should be moved clear of the aircraft before repositioning or storage.

Preventative maintenance should be performed at least every six months, or more often in heavy-duty conditions. This includes cleaning with mild detergent, inspecting fasteners and hydraulic lines, and lubricating the wheel axle and pivot tie-rod. Any parts that fail inspection should be replaced immediately.

Tronair provides a one-year warranty against defects in materials or manufacturing from the date of shipment. Replacement parts typically carry a 90-day warranty. Warranty claims require prior authorization and an RMA number before shipping items back for inspection.
