Start Pac® GREEN™ 28V DC Electric Aircraft Ground Power Unit
Need a Quote?
Start Pac® GREEN™ is the world's first 100% emission-free electric ground power unit (GPU), capable of starting multiple engines and powering up aircraft systems. This patent-pending GPU is the first emission-free autonomous GPU for operators who do not have easy access to an AC power source and need a powerful solution to jumpstart their fleet of aircraft and perform maintenance on various cockpit and aircraft systems such as avionics, GPS, and other high-draw systems, including onboard air conditioning.
Why Would I Want the GREEN™?
Replace a Gas or Diesel GPU
You need starting and continuous power capabilities away from the hangar where you have no access to AC power, and you want to spare time moving aircraft from the flight line to the hangar by tug. You're also trying to reduce the level of emissions during your operations as improving our environment is becoming more important, especially in the aviation industry. So you don't want to use a diesel-powered or gasoline-powered GPU.
Portable Power Supply – On The Ramp or In the Hangar
The Start Pac® GREEN™ is 100% electrically powered by a large pack of 26V batteries and is capable of starting any kind of aircraft, including the most voltage-sensitive ones. Its tremendous battery capacity provides enough clean continuous power to run aircraft systems for hours, including high-draw air conditioning systems. When plugged into the AC mains, the unit can be used as a regular power supply, providing 28V clean continuous power as long as you need it. In a standalone configuration (not plugged into the AC mains), the unit can power up the avionics for more than seven hours and even power the air conditioning for a couple of hours when needed.
Zero Emissions
Unlike diesel-powered units, the Start Pac® GREEN™ can be used as a fully independent unit in the hangar without any polluting and hazardous emissions. Not only is the unit emission-free, but it also has half of the operating costs of a typical diesel-powered GPU – even with the replacement cost of batteries in the future! Moreover, its electricity consumption has an efficiency of approximately 80%, while fuel-powered vehicles are typically limited to an efficiency below 20%. Plus, the Start Pac® GREEN™ can be recharged from a solar photovoltaic array, or from the power grid during low-demand hours when the lowest rates are applied.
Starting Engines
In addition to the main battery bank (also called service batteries), a 26V portable starting unit – Model 2326QC – has been included (inside the unit) in case the service battery has run too low to start the engine. This additional starting unit can be carried around easily or left inside the main unit to be used as a backup engine starter.
Charging
If fully depleted, the main service batteries can be quickly recharged in approximately eight hours. It is a single-phase unit, so there's no need to hassle with big and heavy extension cords. The unit is simple and easy to maneuver on the ramp for shorter distances, but it can also be towed for longer distances.

Maintenance
- Service batteries can be used to start the engine if the voltage is still above 24.5V. Otherwise, use the dedicated portable starting unit (attached).
- Start Pac® batteries have no memory effect and can be recharged at any time. Simply plug the unit in to recharge when not in use for optimum performance, maximum battery life, and prevention of sulfation. Thanks to the built-in high-tech proprietary float chargers, there's no risk of overcharging. Always recharge the unit until the topping charger green light appears, and leave it plugged in when not in use.
- Always avoid discharging the batteries completely, as this can damage the cells, leading to reduced capacity and premature battery failure.
- To protect against moisture damaging internal electrical components, the unit should not be left in the rain or snow.
- This unit is not to be used as an aircraft battery charger.
- Do not cover or enclose this Start Pac® unit when in use, as this will inhibit airflow needed for cooling purposes
- The unit can be pulled by hand or towed by a vehicle as needed.
- Locking the handle in an upright position sets the GPU brake.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
The Start Pac® GREEN™ GPU eliminates the need for diesel fuel, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and minimizing environmental impact. Its electric operation also lowers noise levels, which is particularly beneficial for indoor hangars or airports with strict noise compliance requirements. By running solely on clean electric power, it aligns with aviation industry initiatives for greener ground support equipment.
Yes, the Start Pac® GREEN™ is designed for safe indoor use since it produces zero emissions during operation. Unlike combustion-powered units, it does not produce fumes or exhaust gases, making it ideal for enclosed hangars or maintenance bays. Its quiet operation also reduces workplace noise, improving communication and safety for ground crews.
Maintenance requirements are minimal compared to diesel-powered ground power units. Operators mainly need to monitor battery condition, charging cycles, and cable integrity. With fewer moving parts and no internal combustion engine, servicing costs are significantly reduced over the lifetime of the unit.
Battery life depends on usage cycles, charging practices, and operating conditions. With proper maintenance, the unit’s lead-acid batteries typically provide reliable service for several years before replacement is required. Following manufacturer guidelines for charging and avoiding deep discharges helps extend the battery system's lifespan.
Yes, the GPU is versatile enough for both ramp-side operations and hangar maintenance. Its rugged construction supports outdoor use, while the emission-free design makes it safe for enclosed spaces. This flexibility allows operators to rely on a single power unit across multiple work environments.
The unit includes built-in circuit protection to prevent overloads, short circuits, or reverse polarity connections. Safety interlocks and indicator lights help ensure proper operation during aircraft servicing. These measures protect both the GPU and the aircraft’s electrical system from potential damage.
Designed with ground handling efficiency in mind, the unit is compact and mounted on wheels for easy mobility. Technicians can quickly maneuver it between service locations without needing additional equipment. Its portability makes it especially useful in busy maintenance hangars and ramp areas with frequent aircraft movement.
Yes, the 28V DC output is compatible with a wide range of business, commercial, and military aircraft requiring 28V ground power. Its standardized connectors enable operators to easily hook up to most aircraft without special adapters. This broad compatibility makes it a valuable addition to mixed-fleet operations.
Available accessories include replacement cables, protective covers, and wheel kits to enhance portability. Operators can also purchase spare parts like fuses, switches, and connectors to minimize downtime during service. These options help tailor the unit to specific operational needs and extend its service life.
Unlike diesel models, the GREEN™ unit operates quietly, produces no emissions, and requires much less maintenance. While diesel GPUs may offer longer continuous operation without recharging, the electric model provides significant long-term cost savings in fuel and upkeep. For airports prioritizing sustainability, the GREEN™ is an ideal alternative.
The Start Pac® GREEN™ can be recharged from a standard AC power source, with voltage requirements depending on the model configuration. Charging times vary, but are designed to support quick turnaround between uses. A proper charging routine ensures optimal performance and maximizes battery life.
Ground crews benefit from reduced exposure to noise, fumes, and vibration compared to working with diesel-powered units. The Start Pac® GREEN™ also simplifies training since it has fewer operational steps and less maintenance complexity. Overall, it creates a safer, cleaner, and more efficient work environment.
Yes, PJi offers financing plans or rental options to support operators with budget flexibility. This makes it easier for smaller operators or maintenance facilities to adopt sustainable ground power technology. Rental programs also provide a practical way to test the unit in real operations before committing to purchase.
